Demi's Story

Demi is one of the 10 Shephard/Malanois we pulled from ACC. She and 40+ other dogs were cruelly crammed into Isaak Yadgarov's apartment together with no access to sunlight or the outdoors. Forced to survive for years like this in inhumane and squalor. These poor dogs weren't able to move around at all and many had resorted to hiding in the oven, cabinets, in the hallway, and behind furniture. Officials here in NYC have called this "one of the most disturbing animal welfare cases we have seen here".

Unlike Sammie, who was completely shut down (featured on dodo) Demi, was suffering from living in this hell in a different way. While she was successfully bonding with our amazing friend Jess (Dawg House) where she and the rest of the dogs we pulled were staying and decompressing from their ordeal, she was showing fear aggression towards others when she felt threatened or she felt like Jess was at risk.

Thankfully, we quickly formulated a plan to have Demi begin training with the world renowned trainer, Konnie Hein (Canine Behavior). To say we are grateful is simply an understatement. Konnie has been training dogs for over 20 years. Additionally, Konnie's developed method of specialized training for disaster search dogs is used worldwide.

Under the loving guidance of Konnie we are thrilled to report that Demi is thriving! In fact, she is making daily strides! Her weight and muscling is much better now, and her overall demeanor is much more open.

The biggest improvement is playing with toys! This is a huge step for precious Demi. She wouldn’t even look at a toy (seemed afraid of a moving jolly ball) at first, but recently she started chasing and carrying a thrown/kicked ball. She needs time to adjust to normal life and learn that people can be fun.

Now we need to find a dedicated adopter who will maintain her training. If you are interested in being Demi's hero please apply on our site or message us. Stay tuned for updates not only on Demi but on the status of this cruelty case.
