Delilah's Story
YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS.

Delilah is a 9 year old Lab whose original owner passed away, and the remaining family is facing significant medical hardship and an emergency move out of state, leaving Delilah without a home.

A volunteer at a vet clinic is fostering Lilah until a permanent home can be found. Delilah has been settling in and adjusting well to her new routine.

She’s a sweet, gentle, sensitive girl who does best with patience, structure, and calm guidance as she continues to build confidence.

She is affectionate and people oriented.

We’ve already seen many positive changes as she gets more comfortable.

Once she feels safe, her playful side starts to shine and she enjoys playing with toys. It has been really nice to watch her personality come through.

Delilah has done well with cats and larger dogs and has previously lived with children. She would do best with older children who understand how to respect a dog’s space and boundaries.

While she is experienced and good with kids, dogs and cats, she very much prefers a more low-key household since too much activity can make her feel stressed.

Delilah is nervous around small dogs who are dominant or pushy; proper and calm introductions are best for her with any new dog. She has never shown any aggression.

She is timid and cautious with new people and prefers to approach on her own terms. With patience and consistency, she begins to warm up.

Once she feels safe, she is very sweet and affectionate. She enjoys gentle affection and being near her person and does best in a calm, predictable environment.

She’s still learning appropriate play boundaries with humans and benefits from consistency around routines, meals, and toys, things we are actively working on as she settles in.

She is already house trained and crate trained and has not had any accidents. She may occasionally exhibit submissive/nervous urination when she is very anxious or startled but fine otherwise.

She would enjoy a fenced yard in her new home but that is not a requirement.

Delilah is spayed and has a known veterinary history with the vet clinic. Recent bloodwork and exam were normal.

We have observed some minor resource guarding related to her crate, food, and toys. She gives clear warning signals (freezing, growling) rather than escalating, a very good thing! She will need an experienced adopter who understands management and positive-reinforcement approaches to resource guarding.

Adoption donation $150.

Please note that we do not ship animals. We also require a home visit before finalizing any adoptions so preference is given to applicants within a 90 mile range. You will be required to come to High Point, NC to meet/pick up your new pet.
