Declan's Story

Declan is a very handsome. 5 year old, black, male Scottish Terrier. He’s outgoing once he gets comfortable with what’s going on. He was bought as a puppy and lived in his home for his first 2-3 years, but tragically was then sold to a puppymill when the couple had children. Although no longer having the life he should have had, he still remembered a time when he was loved and had his own people. Thankfully they let him go and we were able to take him into our rescue program. He’s been relearning how to live in a house and coming to his foster parents for attention and affection. We think he’d love to be an only dog and get it all for himself, but could also be fine with a female dog. He was pesty to the other male dog in his foster home. Declan is still very puppylike and energetic.
He still needs more housetraining, so you’ll have to be willing to continue to work with him on it with patience and understanding. Hes been wearing a belly band in the house and doing well. He also needs a person who will take their time in handling him a lot until he gets to know him better, he’s still learning what that’s all about. He’s just been neutered snd had a fresh tooth cleaning, and he’s received his vaccinations now, so he’s currently ready for adoption! His bloodwork has come back fine, as we expected, since he’s young.
He’s been a country dog, so would be fearful in a noisy, concrete environment. We’re looking for a home owner in the burbs, with Scottie experience, who is around, no pool, no other pets or young children. He does get along with the other dogs in his foster home but he’s a bit pushy to the one other male. We would love him to be able to have that great bonding with his person he missed so much this last few years, and as much spoiling as possible. Declan is a happy, energetic, upbeat guy, and we look forward to finding him a great forever home! He loves his foster parents and will love anyone who treats him well and be your little shadow.
For more information, please contact Erica Cerny at ecerny@optonline.net or 973-214-9676
Better pictures later- this one was from his transport.

Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York Rescue's Adoption Policy
The Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York Rescue adopts to applicants in the northeast US. Our adoption process consists of completing our preliminary application online at https://stcgny.com/rescue/how2adopt/ for a review. If our club's adoption requirements are met, you would complete a longer application, and we will check the references you provide on that form. Finally, a home visit is scheduled to see where the dog would be living. Please feel free to contact us by email to ask any questions, or for more information to help you make your adoption decision. Our club has set the adoption fee at $350, but for older dogs or those needing continuing medical care, we use a sliding scale for fees, as we understand the adopter will have additional expenses. We prefer to complete the screening process prior to meeting the dog you are interested in, but you can meet them first if that is more convenient for you. But, please understand that you cannot take the dog home with you until the screening process has been completed and your application has been approved by the rescue committee. Your cooperation will speed up the process! Our rescues are spayed or neutered before adoption, unless there is an age or medical reason prohibiting this. They are examined by our vet, vaccinated, checked for intestinal parasites, tested for heartworm and 3 types of local tick borne illnesses. Many are microchipped. They are professionally groomed if that's possible. Older dogs or anyone undergoing surgery will have full bloodwork done to verify their general health status. Other procedures may also be done as indicated before they are available for adoption. Copies of all these medical records, as well as any we are able to get from their past history, are provided at adoption time. You will be asked to sign a meet and greet form before meeting them, and an adoption contract if you adopt them. Please ask if you have any questions, we're happy to share any information about ourselves and our rescues!
