Deacon's Story

GRADUATED FROM THE COFFEWOOD CANINE PROGRAM

Meet Deacon, a 4-year-10-month-old, 54-lb Pit Bull mix who has been patiently (okay… working on patiently) waiting for his chance at a real home.

Deacon came to us as a stray, and sadly, no one ever came back for him. Since then, he’s spent over a year in the shelter, which has been hard on a dog who is smart, energetic, and built for connection.

Deacon is a strong, athletic boy who loves being active and engaged. He enjoys time in the play yards, thrives with structure, and proudly graduated from the Coffeewood Canine Program, where he worked hard on his training and showed just how capable he is. He knows his basics (his sit is a favorite), enjoys learning, and does best when he has direction and purpose.

In the kennel environment, Deacon can become overstimulated and vocal, and at times he spins — not because that’s who he is, but because shelter life can be overwhelming for a dog who feels things deeply. Outside the kennel, when given space, routine, and human connection, his true personality starts to shine.

Deacon has done well meeting most other dogs and would benefit from a home that understands decompression, exercise, and patience as he settles in. With the right environment, he has the potential to be a loyal, loving, and deeply bonded companion.

Deacon is neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, and up-to-date on all vaccines (including rabies). He’s also been dewormed and started on flea/tick prevention.

Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
