DAX--ADOPTION PENDING's Story
DAX .

Age: 4yo
Weight:7 lbs
Location: Mississauga Onbtario
Adoption donation: $675

Meet Dax! He’s a 4-year-old Chihuahua with a big personality packed into a tiny body! This handsome little guy came to CCRT after his previous owner could no longer care for him.
Dax can be a little unsure meeting new people due to a lack of socialization. He tends to announce his feelings vocally but given a little time and patience his true personality appears - a sweet snuggle bug who loves pets, cuddles, and affection. With other dogs, Dax can be a bit mischievous—sometimes pestering, sometimes playing. The good news is that he’s shown he can make friends, especially with other small dogs.

Dax’s foster parent has put time and effort into working with him on several behaviours and there has been definite improvement. He’s now almost fully house-trained due to providing frequent potty breaks and lots of encouragement. He is great walking on a leash and is learning to focus more on the outside world and exercise rather than strangers/other pups. Dax has also shown progress with separation anxiety as routines and expectations are established. Dax’s adopter would need to continue focusing on these items to ensure he continues to make progress.

Dax does like to make his presence known - whether it’s barking at squirrels outside, the resident pet hamster, or just letting you know he wants attention. His barking has diminished with redirection and positive reinforcement.

Dax will not do well with condo or apartment living. A home with an adopter who will continue taking him for walks, establishing consistent routines and making him feel secure would be ideal for Dax. He would be happiest as the centre of attention or paired with another small dog. He’s a fun-loving little guy with a lot of affection to give and will do well with an adopter who is prepared to continue with his development needs.
