Dawg's Story

🌈 Meet Dawg — the total package is still waiting for his forever family! 🐾
At around 3 years old, Dawg is equal parts sweetheart and goofball, and he's more than ready to find his people.
❤️ Friendly, affectionate, and loves everyone he meets
🐶 Dog-friendly (a meet-and-greet is required if you have another dog)
🚫 No cats — he can ignore a calm, stationary cat, but if one runs or reacts, his chase instinct takes over
✅ Neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccine — ready to go home today!
Dawg loves getting out for walks... just don't expect him to train for a marathon! He's definitely a "short stroll" kind of guy. When he's decided the walk is over, he'll happily plop down right where he is and wait for you to catch on. 😂
He's also a professional splooter, stretching those back legs out like a little frog whenever he relaxes.
Like many playful dogs, Dawg can get a little mouthy when he's excited, but he's responding well to being redirected with toys, and we think he'll thrive once he's settled into a home—especially if he has a playful canine companion.
We can't believe no one has come to reclaim or adopt this amazing boy, but we're holding onto hope that his perfect family is out there.
If you're looking for a loyal best friend with a goofy personality, a heart of gold, and plenty of love to give, Dawg is ready to meet you. Come see him... just don't be surprised if you fall in love. 💙🐾

Colonial Heights Animal Services's Adoption Policy
If you are interested in adopting a pet from our shelter, the process begins with a visit to our shelter to meet the pet of your interest. After meeting the pet, if you decide that the pet is a good match for you and your family, you must then fill out an adoption application. The application must be filled out entirely. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Once you have completed and submitted your application, the application screening process usually takes 2-3 days to complete. Please note that we take multiple applications per pet. Each application is reviewed and the validity of all of the information listed by the applicant is verified. Our goal is place each pet with a forever home that best suits that particular pets needs, therefore we do not do first come first serve adoptions. If your application is the one chosen to adopt the pet, we will contact you and set up a time for you to come in and finalize the paperwork, pay the adoption fee, and pick up your new pet. There is no fee to fill out the adoption application. The fees for adoption are as follows: Female Dogs/Puppies - To be determined Male Dogs/Puppies - To be determined Female Cats/Kittens - To be determined Male Cats/Kittens - To be determined These fees cover the cost of having the pet spayed or neutered. ALL ANIMALS ADOPTED FROM COLONIAL HEIGHTS ANIMAL SHELTER MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Please take a moment to browse our adoptable pets here on petfinder and feel free to visit our facility during our normal business hours. Thank you!
