Danji Terrier & Schnauzer Mix Long Island City, NY

Danji is a female terrier/ schnauzer mix who is estimated to be about two year old. She is about 10 lbs, and is looking for a forever family who will not abandon her anymore.

In a very remote part of southeast part of Korea, Danji was adopted from a city shelter to a home where a single dad was raising a boy. The father was hoping that a dog will keep his boy a company at home while he is at work. That did not work out well as planned, and they decide Danji was too much work to both of them. The father ended up abandoning Danji at a nearby grooming shop, threw her into the store and stormed out when he found out that he is not supposed to leave animals like that. When Danji came back to the shelter, she was all the way on the top of the list of getting euthanized until the local rescuer came to bring her out of the shelter to save her life. The rescuer asked to see if K9Korean Rescue Center would take Danji and help with a proper vetting, we could not refuse.

It turned out that Danji was such a delight. She loved our visiting volunteers, and interacting with our in house trainers. She even loved playing with our other dogs at our center. However, the trainer noticed that she is a bit nervous around kids, and we do not know if she is just nervous, or do not get along with kids due to her past memory. We are going to observe her behavior more at our foster home and inform you more, but what we know so far is that Danji definitely felt that she is safe with us at our rescue center in Korea, her personality really blossomed. She loves people, toys, and playing with other dogs if she thinks they pose no threat. She will still need to work on potty training, and would definitely benefit from getting obedience training in the future so that she can learn about good behaviors, but other than that, she received thumbs up from the vet, and she is ready for her forever home!

We believe people who adopt rescue animals because they are willing to accept a bit of imperfection, and willing to embrace, work/ train and love them no matter what baggage the animal had in the past. It can be challenging, but extremely rewarding. We have seen amazing transformation in our adopted dogs who have been with loving families, and it is our goal to provide all of them with the same opportunity. We are at our happiest when we see photos of our adopted animals smile with the new adoptive family, and we hope to find Danji a loving family who would do the same.

You can MEET Danji upon request after your application is reviewed. Due to Covid-19, the process is no longer is norm, but we have to find alternative ways to arrange for meet and greet of our dogs. Please be patient with us!

*NOTE* We have a 30-mile radius limit from Fairfax, VA for adoption. We require a completed application & home check via Zoom to finalize adoption. An adoption fee of $600 applies. All dogs are spay/neutered and have all shots prior to adoption. Thank you!
