Dale's Story
Dale - Available!<br/>Intake date 1 August 2026 . Black and white, smooth coated neutered male border collie, appx 1.5 years old, 40-45 lbs. . Dale came to us when it became apparent that he is not cut out for the public life as he gets nervous in strange places and will need a human partner to help bring him along. Like many border collies, Dale can be super reticent when meeting new folks and when in strange places. The upside is that once this fella trusts you, he thinks you are amazing . Dale is seeking an adult centered/training centered home with another calm dog or two, and lots of stuff to keep his brain busy. While Dale will self entertain - tossing toys and playing - he will benefit from learning lots of new stuff and doing lots of fun things. . Dale is food motivated and very athletic, so certainly has potential for dogs sports and games. He could easily be a running or hiking companion and would enjoy being with his people. Dale is unknown with cats, and children, and due to his drive, may be best placed into a home without cats or pocket pets. Dale is crate trained and walks reasonably well on leash. His recall is excellent here, and he is very responsive to positive training methods. . This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation. . Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young (generally under 12) children reside. We do not 'test' dogs with children or cats, since testing here will not show an accurate picture, and may give potential adopters false comfort. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated in their description. We do begin crate training all dogs on intake, however, we do not guarantee housebreaking, though most dogs are at a minimum, situationally housebroken. . We do not place dogs as ESA, nor will we place a dog as hypo-allergenic. Applicants interested in adoption of a potential service dog must be actively working with an experienced trainer. Please indicate on the application what skills a potential service dog will be asked to perform. In general, we do not DNA test our dogs in residence. If we do not know a dogs genetic background, we will not advertise it as such, and would prefer that folks not 'guess' publicly. We may describe a dog as a type - example border collie type, aussie type, etc. . Please note that some dogs may be placed with an alter deposit and contract, and any dog of any age may be placed with a training deposit and contract -- this would be noted on offer, prior to placement. For additional information on these policies, please see our website. . Questions about dogs are generally not answered here due to lack of staffing. All available dogs may not be listed on our website due to time constraints and does not effect a specific dog's availability.
