Dakota 22725's Story
Meet Dakota: a darling Scottish Terrier and Cocker Spaniel mix.

Don't let her age fool you - Dakota is a brave girl with pep in her step and is happily living out her golden years. She is fully potty trained, loves going for walks, gets along with dogs and cats, loves all people, and is an all-around wonderful companion. Fun, outgoing, and deeply affectionate, she is sure to enrich her forever home greatly.

Dakota is not difficult to take care of (she's actually one of the easiest dogs her foster family has ever had), but she does require an environment that can accommodate her restrictions. This sweet girl is blind and nearly completely deaf, so she needs a family who can watch their step and keep a clean environment that is mostly free from obstacles. A smart dog that quickly adapts to new environments, she is great at navigating the house and excitedly prances along on walks as if she weren't blind.

Dakota is a curious dog that loves trotting along without a care in the world, enjoying the breeze and new scents. She needs to go on a couple of 20-minute walks a day for the mental stimulation of smelling the outside world.

Because of her limited hearing and lack of sight, she gets worried when left home alone for too long and would do best with someone who works from home or is not away from the house for too long each day. She is silent and could easily live in a home with shared walls.

The perfect dog, Dakota loves people and greets visitors like members of her own beloved family; she is gentle with children, plays well with other dogs, and likes to make friends with cats. She is healthy and bouncy, though she does enjoy a good nap and is an excellent snuggler.

Dakota had a rough upbringing and came to MARS four years ago with various signs of neglect, but you would never know it with her charming personality. She was adopted to a loving home that adored her for several years, but they had to make the impossible decision to give her up due to medical challenges. She is now seeking a forever family that will help her live the rest of her years in happiness and comfort.
