Daisy's Story
Meet Daisy! This adorable young female Mexican Street Dog mix is one of 6 dogs that were rescued in Mexico near San Felipe. They arrived in Bend, OR not long ago with an SDH staff member. We're told that she does well around people and other dogs, but that she can be a bit shy at first. She's approximately 10 months old and around 40 pounds (medium size range). She's spayed, up to date on her shots, is microchipped and ready to go home! Although, since these pups are new to living in homes, a slow intro with people and other pets is best, and we recommend allowing a few days for her to decompress and adjust once in a new environment.

As with all young puppies and younger dogs, they can benefit from someone who's home most of the day who can tend to all of their puppy needs. Training, guidance, healthy boundary-setting and lots of continued socialization will really set these girls up for success during such a critical time in their development.

Upon their arrival, they will go into temporary foster homes located between Bend/Central Oregon and the greater Portland area until they find their new families! Please help us welcome them to the Pacific Northwest and submit your online adoption application through our website right away if you'd like to learn more and get the chance to meet her and work towards a potential in-home adoption trial. Will you be my hero?

Foster update:

Daisy is a sweet girl who is slowly but surely getting comfortable in this new chapter of life. She's still very timid and skeptical of people, but being around other dogs seems to help bring her out of her shell. She would love a fenced yard to run around in since she isn't a fan of walking on a leash yet. She loves toys and having a bone to chew on and is happy to curl up and nap for a lot of the day. She likes to very gently rearrange blankets around her to create a little safety cocoon. It will take some time and patience for her to open up, but her personality so far is very sweet and mellow!

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUR YOUR PUP'S CURRENT STATUS (MEDICAL AND ADOPTION AVAILABILITY) AS WELL AS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption agreement and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover some of the expenses related to bringing this pup into our program. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport, food and supplies, and other rescue related expenses. Rescue dogs do not transport to SDH until they are healthy, have been further medically and behaviorally evaluated per our guidelines and are ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they arriving into our program, which includes sterilization, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program depending on our rescue/shelter partner's available resources, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive with us at our cost.

Once the adoption has been finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
