Dahlia's Story

Hello there, I'm Dahlia! I'm a spayed, 1-year-old, Pitbull/ German Shepherd mix that currently weighs about 52lbs. I'm a sweet, curious lady that would love to go home with a family with kids 10 years or older that has experience with shy gals like me. My new family should also be prepared to continue my training since I'm still working on my doggy social skills and learning to share. If you have a mellow resident dog, please bring him or her in so we can say hello before I officially join the family! I would love to meet the whole household before going to a home, so come on by and say hi! For more information, just ask Customer Service about me. Dahlia ID#A959886
I recently went on a field trip with a PHS volunteer! Here's how I did:
Dahlia and I had some quality time together yesterday—about 5 hours worth! We drove to Sharp Park in Pacifica, parked, and walked for about 1.5 hours along the sidewalks near Pacifica Pier and on down the berm that runs parallel to the ocean. Aside from an intense need to sniff everything at her leisure, the walk went fine. The noise of the waves didn’t bother her, nor did the birds large and small flying or perching very close to her. She notes other dogs but does not feel the need to approach them, and she pretty much ignores people. After another car ride we got to my place in Half Moon Bay. She isn’t bothered at all by stairs and happily bounced up and down those in my house. She sniffed her way around the house and seemed curious about many things. We watched a little television, which seems to captivate her. I could tell she was feeling confident and comfortable when she started to amp herself up. She did parkour zoomies around the living room, bouncing from sofa to floor to table and on to me. As she was getting a little too wild I leashed her up again, and we had a nice walk down Main Street in HMB where she again mostly ignored other dogs and people. She did great in the Field and Fuel store, accepting a treat from the owner and sniffing all the amazing things there including feeds for many animals, plus chicks and ducklings in cages. We then got back into the car and returned to the shelter. She knows exactly the way to her dorm room! Dahlia is a smart and lovely girl who just needs her own home and people, and some consistency in her training.Unless otherwise indicated, adoptable animals are located at our Lantos Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA 94010.
You may call us at 650-340-7022 to schedule an appointment, or just drop by.
