Cypress's Story
CYPRESS: A Louisiana Original, Somehow Still on the Market

Cypress is a 2-year-old, 65-pound Lab/Shepherd mix who came to Take Paws as a bottle baby, back when he was less "majestic bayou gentleman" and more warm potato requiring round-the-clock catering. His siblings all got adopted.

Cypress did not.

Two years later, we would like the state of Louisiana to explain itself.

Because this dog is lagniappe with legs. Cypress is affectionate, house trained, wonderful with respectful kids, dog friendly with thoughtful introductions, and so devoted to his humans that "Velcro dog" feels insufficiently sophisticated. He is more of a domesticated gravitational phenomenon. Sit down and 65 pounds of Louisiana immediately experiences a change in tides.

He carries toys around like a tiny Cajun maw-maw carrying her purse. They are important. They go places. Sometimes he presents one to you with extraordinary solemnity, as though the nutria have finally approved your mortgage.

Dogs can absolutely be friends once Cypress knows everybody is cool. Cats, however, activate his cher, why you running? circuitry. He hasn't shown ill intent, but a fleeing cat becomes recreationally compelling, so we'd rather his forever home be feline-free. Chickens are also a hard non. Cypress apparently has ancestral grievances with poultry.

And somehow, while every sibling went home, Cypress grew up with us. From bottle baby to lanky adolescent to this enormous, tender, toy-carrying swamp prince, still waiting for his person to show up.

Mais, enough already.

Somebody come get your dog. He's been down here growing into something extraordinary while y'all took entirely too damn long.

PLEASE READ BELOW:

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt

Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application.
*An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application*
All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.
For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq

Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed.
