Curtis's Story
***IN FOSTER CARE-Curtis has packed his stocking, emailed Santa a change of address, and headed into foster care for Christmas. Our shy guy is enjoying a calmer environment with the patience and love he needs to continue building confidence.
If you’re interested in Curtis or have questions, please reach out. A pre-application is encouraged and helps us take the next steps toward a meet & greet.

Curtis is a 5-year-old, 47 lb Lab mix who was adopted from us last November but slipped away shortly afterward and disappeared. Despite searches, there were no sightings for an entire year. Last night, Animal Control brought him in after finding him running with another dog — and we are relieved and grateful to have him safe again.

Curtis returned to us shy, cautious, and unsure — the same tender soul he was when he first arrived. After surviving on his own for so long, it makes perfect sense that he needs time to decompress and learn to feel safe indoors again. We’re giving him that space and getting to know him all over.

One thing that has always been true: Curtis is fabulous with other dogs. He gains confidence from them, mirrors their behavior, and settles more easily when he has a friendly canine companion nearby. A calm, confident resident dog would be incredibly helpful for him — someone to show him household routines, stability, and the day-to-day rhythm of life in a real home.

Curtis is a quiet, sensitive dog looking for someone who understands shy personalities and appreciates small victories. With patience, predictability, and gentle encouragement, he will bond deeply and loyally.

He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed, and will be brought current on vaccines, flea/tick prevention, and monthly preventatives.

Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
