She is very timid and is just beginning to learn what it means to live in a home. She startles easily and will either duck or run if you approach her too quickly. While she seems interested in eating near the resident dogs in the foster home, she often changes her mind. Her foster mom puts her bowl in her crate, which she sees as her safe space, but she won’t eat if anyone is nearby—she eats late at night when it's quiet and no one is around.
Curls go outside with the resident dogs and clearly wants to be part of the family. She joins them in the family room and even follows their routine at bedtime. She sleeps in her crate with the door open, finding comfort in that space. Her foster mom is incredibly proud of her. Despite her fears, Curls has never had an accident in the house. She’s a sweet, gentle soul who is still figuring things out and learning how to trust. She's a very good dog, just unsure of how to be one yet.

MUST MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: Permanent resident dog to help her continue to build confidence, fenced in yard due to being fearful and afraid of being on a leash.

Currently, we have approximately 70 families on our approved matching list, but it is NOT a chronological list; our Adoption Coordinator works with the entire list when trying to find the best matches. Once you’ve submitted an adoption application, you will receive an email confirmation outlining next steps. Because our dogs are in private foster homes all over Illinois and NW Indiana (we do not have a boarding facility) they are not met until a match has been approved. Please be aware that the demand is much higher than the supply of dogs and the wait can be several months or longer to adopt a dog.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS, NO EXCEPTIONS:
* Be at least 23 years of age
* No children under 6 years of age living in your home
* We primarily adopt goldens to families living within Illinois, Northwest Indiana, and the southernmost counties of Wisconsin
* If you do not own your residence or live in a condo, you will need a letter from your landlord or property management company
* Provide excellent vet care for your dog(s)
* Do not use an invisible fence
* Are not over your town/county's pet limit
* Have the knowledge and agreement of all adults living in the household
* Be prepared to make a lifetime commitment

If interested, please fill out our online adoption application form ($35 non-refundable fee); please make sure you fill in every required field/question or your submission will not go through:
https://www.asgoodasgold.org/adopt-a-golden-retriever/

Please note that we take time to learn as much as we can about each dog in our care and our bios are our current observations; we are unable to make any guarantees on the future health or temperament of your adopted dog. Most dogs in our care come with unknown pre-rescue history and as such breed and age estimates are an educated guess
