Meet Cricket: A Resilient Soul Ready for His Second Chance Cricket is a 72-pound German Shepherd/Labrador mix with a heart that has weathered more than its fair share of storms. At approximately 3 years old, Cricket is in the prime of his life and looking for a dedicated partner to help him leave his past behind. His Story Cricket's journey hasn't been easy. After his original owner passed away in Kentucky, he spent several months neglected in a shed, with only sporadic access to food. Despite this hardship, Cricket's spirit remains unbroken. He is incredibly treat-motivated, which has been the key to his impressive progress. He has already shown a massive capacity for change and just needs a patient owner to continue the journey with him. The Ideal Home Because of his history of scarcity, Cricket developed resource guarding behaviors (protecting his food, toys, and treats). For this reason: • Only Pet: He needs to be the "only child" in the home to ensure he feels safe and secure without competition. • Predictable Environment: A structured home with a consistent routine will help him thrive. • Health & Wellness: He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. • Potty Training: While he was previously house-trained, he has been in a boarding environment recently and may need a short "refresher course" once he settles into a new living space. Understanding Resource Guarding Resource guarding is a natural survival instinct that became intensified for Cricket during his months of neglect. It isn't about "dominance"; it's about a fear that his resources will disappear again. Due to this he will also need a home with no young kids (16 +) Cricket is a handsome, smart, and capable dog who just wants to know that his next meal is guaranteed and his humans are his teammates. With a little structure and a lot of love, he is going to be a fiercely loyal companion.
