Cowboy's Story

Hi. My name is Cowboy. I may be a cur mix but I act like a beagle too. I am eight years old and I weigh about forty pounds. I think the pictures make me look bigger than I am. I was surrendered to the rescue when my family was moving away and said they couldn't take me with them. I just don't understand that and was very confused at first. Now, I am over them and ready to move on with my life.
I am a scaredy cat, playful and loyal to my family. I talk a lot if someone comes around I don't know and I can sound quite fierce. Actually I am a big chicken and will stand behind you or run to my crate, please don't tell anyone. I love toys, lots of them. I have always lived in a home with a fenced yard. I went to training classes and know all my basic obedience and how to walk with a harness on a leash. I like walks. I came to the rescue with two problems we have been working on, first I love food and treats. I should weigh about fourty pounds but it's hard for me to hold that weight because I will eat anything you give me! So they are watching how much food I eat and I am trying to get more exercise, did I say I love food and treats? Second I tested positive for a tick borne illness called Ehlrlicha so I have been treated for that. I will always test positive, but I have no symptoms and it's not causing me any problems now. Just saying so you know. I like other dogs and would be happy in a home with a playmate or just you. I don't bother cats so they are fine too. I am going to match the energy level of your home, busy or chill is just fine. I am housetrained.
I have been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms. My adoption fee is 150.00. If you are interested in adopting me please go to dogsasfamily.org and fill out an adoption application for me, Cowboy. I could protect you and be your friend if you can do the same for me.

Dogs As Family, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
All of our kids are in foster homes where they are treated as family with enormous amounts of love and top quality medical attention to insure they are in good health. Each kid is spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots and tested for heartworm, Lyme and Ehrlichia prior to being placed in their forever home. Each of our kids are loved for who they are, we evaluate for personality and temperament so we can place them with their new families. When time allows, we house-train and begin teaching basic obedience. Many of our dogs participate in the Dogs of Lexington program allowing them behavioral fine-tuning during the inmate training program. Our adoption process begins with submitting an adoption application through our website at http://www.dogsasfamily.com/forms/ We do not ship furry family members. We can do out of state adoptions if you are able to travel to Oklahoma City to meet with
