Cowboy's Story

Courtesy post: Meet Cowboy, a handsome approximately 3-year-old, 35-pound Pit Bull mix who is ready to find a family to call his own.

Cowboy’s story began in Baltimore City near Cylburn Arboretum, where a friend witnessed him being released from a car that quickly drove away. He spent the day with her at the Arboretum before coming into her home for the night. The following morning, Cowboy was scanned for a microchip, which revealed an adoption record from BARCS in 2025. Attempts were made to contact his previous owner, but unfortunately, the messages were read and ignored. After about seven weeks in his foster home, Cowboy has shown just how much personality and love he has to give.

Cowboy is friendly, playful, energetic, and non-reactive around other dogs, children, and adults. He loves going for walks, playing fetch, and especially playing tug with his rope toys. He also enjoys chew toys, although stuffed toys do not stand a chance with this boy. Once he is finished playing, Cowboy is more than happy to settle in for some serious cuddling. He loves resting his head on your chest or lap and will happily crawl completely underneath a blanket to snuggle with you if given the chance.

Cowboy is a smart boy who has clearly had some training. He knows sit, spin, off, down, drop, and leave it. He has some recall training, although his response to come here is not always reliable, and he is crate trained. He is comfortable in a variety of environments and is very tolerant of handling. His foster family can clean his paws, handle his ears, give him baths, and even open his mouth without issue. Loud noises and music do not bother him.

Cowboy has no known medical issues and is up to date on his vaccines and preventatives. He does have some anxiety and does not enjoy being left alone for long periods. He is also not comfortable around cats, so he will need a cat-free home. His foster family has also noticed that he sometimes has difficulty making it through the night without having an accident in the house, so his new family will need to be patient and willing to continue working with him on his house training.

We think Cowboy would thrive with an individual or family who can give him plenty of attention, exercise, playtime, and companionship. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but multiple walks and opportunities to stay active would also make him happy. Most importantly, Cowboy needs someone who wants an affectionate, playful companion and doesn't mind sharing the couch, bed, or a little blanket space with their dog.

Cowboy has already shown how loving, fun, and adaptable he can be. Now he just needs someone who is willing to give him the time, patience, attention, and stability he deserves. We think this sweet boy is ready to leave his past behind and start the next chapter of his life with a family who will love him for good.
Contact Matthew at matt.rossi423@gmail.com or 410-935-6631
