He has a calm, affectionate nature and gets along well with adults, children, and other dogs. He is the kind of dog who quietly waits outside the kitchen or bathroom just to be near you, hoping for a soft pet when you come out.<br/><br/>His Story<br/>We rescued Dirk six months ago from a family in our neighborhood who could no longer care for him after their young child was diagnosed with cancer. They were overwhelmed and unable to give Dirk the time and attention he deserved, so we brought him into our home with the intention of giving him a forever home.<br/>Initially, all of our dogs coexisted peacefully. <br/><br/>Unfortunately, several months ago our older dog began attacking Dirk repeatedly. Despite every effort to manage and resolve the situation, our older dog will not tolerate him. <br/>We are now forced to keep them separated at all times, which is stressful and unfair for everyone involved—especially Dirk.<br/><br/>With heavy hearts, we know the most loving thing we can do is find Dirk a safe, stable forever home where he can thrive.<br/><br/>Temperament & Personality<br/>Dirk is a truly sweet boy. He is affectionate, cuddly, and devoted to his people. He enjoys being part of the family and is happiest when he’s near you. He is playful and loves retrieving sticks endlessly, and he truly enjoys long walks. He is not aggressive and does not bark excessively.<br/><br/>Training & Manners<br/>Fully house-trained<br/>Not currently crate trained, but should adapt easily if needed<br/>Knows basic commands including: sit, stay, down, get off, and “bump paws”<br/>Will happily bring you his leash when he wants to go outside<br/><br/>Well-behaved and eager to please<br/><br/>Vaccinations: He is fully vaccinated and his rabies shots are current till 5/2026. <br/><br/>He is in <br/>very good health with no apparent ailments. <br/>Please consider our gentle sweet boy. We want him to have the best forever home.
