Courtesy Listing- Bugsy's Story

Courtesy Listing: This dog is not at our shelter. Contact the owner for more information.

We’re having to make a heartbreaking decision to rehome our girl Bugsy. She’s a pitbull mix and just under 40lbs, spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccines. We’ve had her for close to a year now and have worked with her countless hours, spent thousands on training and we just can’t break her reactivity. She really is the sweetest girl when she trusts you! She’s a rescue, and was abandoned in Condon park.. whatever she’s been through has really done a number on her. She is incredibly smart and trainable, eager to work and please. I truly believe with time and work she can learn to trust that not everything is out to get her.

On walks, Bugsy's in flight or fight and her default is fight. She is a real guard dog in a petite frame. She also has a bit of separation anxiety but she’s getting better. She does well out of her crate home alone, doesn’t chew shoes or furniture, she just has a hard time relaxing and prefers to be able to see out the windows. She’s most comfortable at home when her people are next to her. She barks and lunges at most dogs and people. She is better with children and women, but her reactions are unpredictable.

Bugsy is place trained, crate trained, potty trained. She's great at staying and down, also has pretty good recall. She likes to stay close and doesn’t dart (unless she sees other dogs or people too close) She is trained with an e-collar which helps us manage her to an extent. She’s great with kids and other dogs that she’s had the opportunity to play with. Just meeting them can be stressful at first.

At home with just our family, she is perfection. Taking her out around others or having people come to our home is difficult and stressful. Someone who is home a lot or has experience with reactive dogs and has time to work with her would be ideal. She is AMAZING in so many ways. We love her dearly and would love to find her a home where she can thrive.

To learn more about Bugsy, call (707) 334-2703.
