Courage is an approximately 1-year-old mixed breed. Best guess on breed......who knows? Border Collie? Lab mix? We just know he has lots of energy and is 100% puppy and good boy. He may have applications in progress, but is currently available. <br/><br/>Did you go to the bathroom? All the way to the mailbox? Courage is SO excited you made it back! He is a ball of uncontrolled enthusiasm. Given that Courage is young and was picked up as a stray, these may be related to his age and never truly being socialized in living with humans. He has decent manners once he calms down. <br/><br/>Courage is a very active boy who must have regular and intentional exercise. Without it, he will make his own "fun" like shoes, or magazines, or rocks, or......well anything he can find. He doesn't seem to EAT any of these things and he will happily give them up in exchange for some attention. Running loose in a large yard is not enough exercise by itself. A three mile walk is. Another playful, energetic dog is. He would make a good running companion or doggie daycare dog. He doesn't necessarily need intense exercise every day, but every other is a good idea.<br/><br/>Courage is not overly food motivated. If he's crawling into your lap, it's because he loves your lap, not the hamburger you're holding. He likes training more for than attention than the food and has picked up 'sit', 'down' and 'touch' (booping his nose on your hand). Courage is fairly shy around new people. He will take a treat from a stranger with some coaxing but he isn't sure about it. He isn't bothered at all by strangers as long as they don't try to approach him. Walking down a crowded path isn't a problem. It simply takes him some time to warm up to trust people. He definitely has favorite people in his foster family, but now that he feels safe, multiple family members get the excited jumpy greetings.<br/><br/>Courage is wonderful in his crate. You wouldn't expect it from how exited and attention seeking he is out of it, but he goes in, and he chills. He doesn't whine to be with you in the next room. He is ALL THE WAY excited to see you when he gets out, and if he hasn't had enough exercise recently he will chew his bedding. Note that his foster family is mostly home during the day and is not crating him for long periods of time.<br/><br/>He is excellent with other dogs. Loves to play, but listens to corrections and balances play intensity well with all sizes. He would likely be a great daycare or dog park dog. HeTentatively does well with cats (limited exposure). He is good on a leash. He does like to walk at a fast clip, but never pulls hard, and stops and comes back if you remind him. Once he has gotten that exercise, he is very good at chilling. He's very much a on-or-off dog – there's not a lot of in between. He did well in the bath, and very well getting his nails clipped. (fell asleep getting his nails clipped – when this boy is done, he is DONE)<br/><br/>Adoption fee is $375 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, fecal/deworming, vaccines and prevention up to date. Ohio residents only.<br/><br/>STS is a foster-based and volunteer-run rescue. We do not have a physical location or set hours for you to meet dogs, and it does take time to answer each inquiry. All dogs are in foster homes and once an application is approved and a home visit is completed you will be able to schedule meet and greets with available dogs.
