Courage

Introducing: Courage, the well-adjusted puppy. He is an approximately 1-year-old Border Collie mix (best guess on age and mix). He may have applications in progress, but is currently available. <br/><br/>Courage was picked up as a stray. Everything we have seen of his personality is pure puppy. He is floppy, bouncy, eager to please, curious, uncoordinated, trusting, non-judgmental, willing to try anything once – all the good puppy things. Courage's report card:<br/>- Potty training: A+ no accidents of any sort<br/>- Crate training: A+ happy to go in, settles immediately. No signs of separation anxiety or destructive/disruptive behavior. Likes to sleep in in the mornings! <br/>- Takes treats gently: A+ SO, very, very, gently.<br/><br/>While Courage gets along well with the dogs in his foster home, and his foster is sure he would love playing or cuddling with a dog who liked those things (the dogs in his foster home do not), he definitely seems more person-focused. In fact, he seems to be somewhat one-person focused. While he isn't rude to or afraid of any of his foster family, he very much picked a favorite and will watch the door where they went out, celebrate their return, and climb into their lap, despite his foster family making efforts to have other people feed and play with him. (though his foster family is working on this with him and while he still has a preference, he will relax around others) <br/><br/>He is a little jumpy still, but is very quickly learning manners - he's doing so well that this will likely settle out as he learns basic dog skills and becomes comfortable in a home enviroment. While he likes a good romp first thing in the morning, overall, he's pretty lazy and just happy to have a soft spot to relax in with his family. Courage likes cuddling, and is mostly pretty polite about it, lying primarily next to you, with only his head or a soft part of him actually on top of you. Unless you have a laptop out. Then part of him must be on top of the laptop. He may be part cat. ;) And speaking of cats, he is tentatively good with cats – he briefly met the cat in his foster home and he reacted politely with some curiosity, but there hasn't been any long-term exposure.<br/><br/>He does a good job moderating play with smaller dogs and doesn't get too intense. He has been very non-destructive in the house – he hasn't been left loose and unattended yet, but he's given his foster family no reason not to do so. <br/><br/>Adoption fee is $375 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, fecal/deworming, vaccines and prevention up to date. Ohio residents only.<br/><br/>STS is a foster-based and volunteer-run rescue. We do not have a physical location or set hours for you to meet dogs, and it does take time to answer each inquiry. All dogs are in foster homes and once an application is approved and a home visit is completed you will be able to schedule meet and greets with available dogs.
