Cotton's Story

Cotton is an adorable 3 year old Chihuahua mix who is 9 lbs. Cotton came to us from a small, rural shelter in Texas, where she was relinquished by her adopters three years after originally adopting her from that same shelter. While that chapter has closed, Cotton is now safely in Colorado, settling into a loving foster home where she’s being cared for, supported, and given the time she needs to decompress. She’s ready for a new beginning with an adopter who will offer her the stability and kindness she deserves.

Cotton is understandably feeling a bit shy and confused as she adjusts to so many big changes in a short amount of time. When she first arrived, she spent much of her first day tucked safely under her foster’s bed, but by day two she was already coming out for pets and treats. She finds a great deal of comfort in her foster’s dog and can often be found cuddled up next to her, taking cues and reassurance from having a doggy companion nearby.
Because of this, Cotton will do best in a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help show her the ropes and provide comfort as she continues to warm up. With a patient, kind adopter who understands that she’s navigating a big transition, Cotton will continue to blossom as she settles in and learns that she’s safe.

From Cotton's foster:
"Cotton is so sweet and we love her! She has come out of her shell a lot!! The first day home she was shy and hid from us, but by the second day she was exploring more and would come to us for pets and treats. She LOVES Biscuit (our dog) and snuggles with her all the time! On her 4th day home with us, she was warmed up enough that she came and sat in my lap for a long time and got snuggles and pets. She wants affection, and is so so sweet. Just give her a few days to come around!"

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Cotton out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area.

Cotton will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to support our hopes for a future of zero population growth in the canine population.
When Cotton was relinquished to the shelter, her previous owner mentioned that on very rare occasions, Cotton has a brief, mild seizure lasting only a couple seconds. We did see one occur on the day she arrived in Colorado, which was understandably a very stressful and overwhelming day for her. Out of an abundance of caution, we took her straight to our vet, who was not surprised given the circumstances and explained that stress can sometimes trigger seizures in dogs who are predisposed to them. Cotton’s bloodwork came back perfect, and our vet confirmed that she is a very healthy dog. Because these episodes are infrequent and mild, the vet said that no medication or treatment is needed. We of course want to be transparent about this since they can happen sometimes, but it is rare and does not need medical attention or treatment.
Hope, our rescue manager, has a dog with this exact same condition and is more happy to answer any questions a potential adopter may have about this.

Cotton is available for adoption now. Adoption applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and cuddly best friend. An app can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Cotton, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
