Cotton's Story
Cotton is an adorable 3 year old Chihuahua mix who is a tiny 9 lbs. Cotton came to Farfel's Rescue from a small, rural shelter in Texas where she was relinquished by her family, three years after adopting her from that same shelter as a puppy. While that chapter has closed, Cotton is now safely settling into a loving foster home where she’s being cared for, supported, and given the time she needs to decompress. She’s ready for a new beginning with an adopter who will offer her the stability and kindness she deserves... and never give her up!

Cotton is understandably feeling a bit shy and confused as she adjusts to so many big changes in a short amount of time. When she first arrived, she spent much of her first day tucked safely under her foster’s bed, but by day two she was already coming out for pets and treats. She finds a great deal of comfort in her foster’s dog and can often be found cuddled up next to her. Cotton finds reassurance from having a doggy companion nearby.
Because of this, Cotton will thrive in a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help show her the ropes and provide comfort as she continues to warm up. With a patient, kind adopter who understands that she’s navigating a big transition, Cotton will continue to blossom as she settles in and learns that she’s safe and loved.

From Cotton's foster:
* * * *
"Cotton is so sweet and we just love her! She has come out of her shell a lot! She’s just beginning her new life chapter, and while she’s still a bit shy after a week home with us, she’s warming up a little more each day. It’s clear she missed out on positive human engagement early on, but she’s showing steady signs of trust and bravery.
Cotton spent the first day home hiding from us, but by day 2 was starting to feel more comfortable with pets. She absolutely loves our dog though and has been playing and snuggling with her since day 1.
One of Cotton’s biggest supports here has been our dog, a medium sized, confident Staffie mix who has become her safe anchor.
Cotton absolutely lights up around other dogs and is most relaxed when playing with or curled up with another dog. I think it is 100% necessary that she go to a home with another dog.
She is fully house‑trained, respectful of the resident cat, and happiest at night snuggled on a dog bed next to her BFF (our dog Biscuit).
During the day, she enjoys exploring the backyard, especially when the sun warms her shiny black coat. She’s not a fan of the cold and will likely appreciate a cozy sweater once she’s comfortable being handled.
Walks are still a work in progress — when her harness goes on, she tends to freeze. With time, patience, and a calm environment, she’ll continue to blossom into the loving companion she’s meant to be.
Cotton is looking for an adopter who understands that shy dogs bloom at their own pace — someone patient, gentle, and willing to let her set the tempo. With the right person (and ideally a confident dog buddy), she’s going to thrive"
* * * *

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Cotton out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area.

Cotton will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to support our hopes for a future of zero population growth in the canine population.

Cotton is available for adoption now. Adoption applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and cuddly best friend. An app can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Cotton, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
