Cosmo (LC)'s Story

Meet Cosmo, a sweet 2 year old purebred Australian Shepherd.

Cosmo was rescued from a breeding operation, where he lived in an outdoor pen his whole life.

Despite having had no socialization, he has a naturally sweet temperament and loves giving kisses once he warms up. He is shy but very handler-friendly, even during baths and nail trims.

He loves to play with other dogs, go for leashed walks, and cuddle on the couch watching TV with you. He has a moderately lower energy level for his breed.

He doesn’t do well when people are gone long periods of time: 3 hours is pushing it. So someone who is a homemaker or works from home would be a good fit for his separation anxiety. He needs another confident dog to continue showing him the ropes and keep him company. We think he broke a tooth in the crate biting bars, so he cannot be crated more than a few hours at a time.

He loves snuggling on the couch and can be fearful and timid of loud unexpected noises. He isn’t fully potty trained yet, but we are getting there. He has accidents far and few in between, but wears a belly band for good measure.

He doesn’t resource guard or have any signs of aggressive behavior, but we have not seen him around cats. His play style with other dogs tends to be submissive, but he sometimes herds other dogs. He respects boundaries set by other dogs, but can pester a dog that doesn’t correct him.

He does eat his waste if you don’t watch him; he was competing with other dogs for resources and came to us very skinny, so he may have developed this behavior for survival.

He just started playing with toys and likes the chewy ones! He comes out of his shell more and more every day, so if you’re patient, and want a cuddly companion to join you on walks, feel free to apply via our website.

Herdinghomerescue.com/adopt

Cosmo is currently being fostered in Houston Tx, but can be transported anywhere in the US at adopter’s expense.

NOTE: We only accept apps and inquiries through our website. We do not accept apps made through Petfinder. Please apply directly via herdinghomerescue.com
