Cortez's Story
Cortez, a 5 month old pittie mix. He is a hilarious, curious puppy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. His foster describes him as “a hoot and a joy to be around,” and it’s easy to see why. He loves squeaky toys and will happily toss them around, squeaking away until he wears himself out. One of his cutest habits is rolling around on the floor while “talking” up a storm—he’s quite the little entertainer!

Cortez lives with both dogs and cats in foster care. He mostly ignores the dogs but is very interested in the cats and sometimes tries to convince them to roughhouse. Like most puppies, he’s still working on house training and kennel skills, but he’s making steady progress.

Once Cortez feels comfortable, he forms a very strong bond with his person. He loves to explore and follow his curiosity, but if he realizes he’s wandered a little too far, he’ll come running right back to check in. That sweet attachment makes him a wonderful companion for someone who wants a dog closely connected to them.

Cortez can be a bit sensitive in new situations. The leash is still a scary mystery to him, so leash walking will need patience and positive training. Because he’s a puppy, he’s also in the “everything goes in my mouth” stage, so supervision and continued training will be important.

Cortez would likely thrive in a low-stress, predictable home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. He is happy to relax alone for short periods but truly thrives when he’s close to his person. Cortez also has a mild neurological condition that simply adds to his charm and unique personality. It doesn’t stop him from being playful, affectionate, and full of life.

Thank you for considering an OTAT-WTX rescue! All pets are living in foster homes, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on core vaccines.

If you are interested in adopting, or for more information, please visit our website: https://otatwtx.org/adopt
