Copper's Story

Copper is a striking Australian cattle dog who is every bit of his breed. At 1.5-2 yrs old and 35lbs, he is loyal, intelligent, high energy and tenacious.

Copper currently lives with a lot of dogs as does pretty good, but he spends quite a bit of time herding them and screaming at them when he feels they have stepped out of line.

As you can see from his photos, he is also very loyal to his foster mom and loves to cuddle with her or be under her feet. This breed does tend to favor one owner as a leader of the pack and Copper prefers a female owner.

While we do not know if Copper was ever a working cattle dog, we do believe he would be good as one due to how well he keeps all his housemates in check and his overall demeanor.

Copper will only go to an owner with heeler experience as he was previous adopted out by a different rescue to a family with small children who did not appreciate Copper's very skilled herding skills which could have resulted in him losing his life for simply doing what he is breed to do.

Copper will not go to a home with small children or small animals, while he has never tried to attack an of the foster cats or smaller dogs in his home, we believe his heeler traits could result in a negative experience.

Prior to rescue, Copper had a bad experience with a shock collar around his neck, so he prefers to not have anything on his neck. To take him for walks, he would need to be harnessed. Where he currently lives, he does not need to be harnessed or leashed when running on their property.

If you are interested in Copper, he is in East TN. Due to his personality, an adopter would need to be able to pick up Copper close to the area. The foster would be willing to drive to meet the right adopter as well.

Apply at herohounds.org/adopt
