Copper's Story
Dog name: Copper
Gender: Male
Age/Weight: 11 yrs / 11 lbs
Breed: Chihuahua mix
Heartworm status: Negative
Medications/Injuries: None

Good with people? Yes, he’s skittish at first but a lovebug once he’s comfortable.

Children? Eh. He wants your lap all to himself and would prefer a quiet home, so older kids (or none at all) preferred.

Dogs? Yes

Cats? Unknown but probably fine as long as they don’t steal his lap space.

Other animals? Unknown but probably fine.

House trained? Yes, but on the first day or if you take him somewhere new he’ll need a belly band. Otherwise he’ll mark. He does let me know when he needs to go out too and has not had a single accident.

Crate trained? Yes, not a fan and may whine or cry for 20 minutes or so when he first gets to his new home and has to go in. I have to put him in if I have to leave during the day (which is rare), but at night he puts himself to bed now and doesn’t make a peep.

Energy level: Low

Travel well? No. He hates riding in the car.

Favorite toy/activity: Napping and cuddling in my lap

Leash trained? He does pretty well. Gets excited when you put the leash on him.

Fence needed? No

Copper came to us as an owner surrender after his dad developed dementia and had to move to a facility. He has adjusted to a new home after 11 years surprisingly well. All this sweet boy wants is to snuggle with you, preferably with a cozy blanket. Nothing would make him happier than snoozing on the couch with you all day.

He’s been with us since the end of January and hasn’t shown any interest in toys other than an occasional sniff, and he’s only chewed on a bone once. He will occasionally try to play with our labs, but it’s rare. He loves his food and treats. He is very healthy for 11 years old, too.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving snuggle bug to spend your days with, Copper is your guy!
