Cooper is a beautiful, neutered, 6-year-old, 42-lb purebred Beagle who is looking for his next chapter through absolutely no fault of his own. <br/><br/>From the moment you touch his soft, velvety ears, you’ll understand why we fell so completely in love with him. Cooper is every bit a Beagle—curious, clever, stubborn in the most charming way, and deeply motivated by food. (We’re fairly certain he would sell us for a cheese sandwich.) Because of that motivation, he’s had quite a bit of training and knows sit, stay, down, and come. He can hold a down-stay for a full five minutes while you walk from room to room trying to distract him. His recall is surprisingly solid for a Beagle who would normally follow a scent straight into the next county. He is fully house-trained and uses a dog door, never having accidents. If the door is closed, he politely lets you know when he needs to go out. At night, Cooper’s favorite place is snuggled up with his human—preferably under the covers—where he will absolutely steal your heart. If you insist, he will sleep on a dog bed… but he would much rather be close to you. <br/><br/>Cooper is friendly with other dogs and has lived peacefully with a cat for most of his life. Because he thrives on canine companionship, we feel he would do best in a home with at least one other dog who can provide the kind of play and interaction only another dog can. He enjoys playing ball and tug, walks well on a harness, and does well with children (though we haven’t observed him with every age group). Like many Beagles, he will “bray” at other dogs while on walks—Beagles have opinions, and they aren’t shy about sharing them. He walks very well on leash. He is in excellent health, and Beagles are generally a hardy, healthy breed. Cooper bonds deeply with his people and loves men and women equally. Once you’re his person, you’re truly his. <br/><br/>This decision has been incredibly difficult for us. Cooper has brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives, and letting him go is not something we take lightly. As we’ve gotten older, we’ve realized we can no longer provide the level of activity and companionship a Beagle truly needs. While we do our best, we simply can’t match the energetic, playful interaction he would get from another dog. Unfortunately, we’re not in a position to add a second dog—and we believe that’s what Cooper truly deserves. Beagles are wonderful, special dogs—but they are different. They come with quirks, opinions, and extra challenges. <br/><br/>We strongly encourage anyone interested to spend some time learning what life with a Beagle is really like. We would love to find someone with Beagle experience, but we are also happy to support and guide the right person. There is a $100 rehoming fee. Prospective adopters will be asked to complete an application, participate in a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs, and provide a video of the home Cooper would be living in. Our goal is simple: for this to be Cooper’s forever home. Cooper will go to his new family up to date on vaccinations and with his leash, harness, favorite toys, dog bed, and food.
