Cookie's Story

Cookie / F / 2Y / 8.5lbs / Chihuahua / Fostered in Owen Sound

Cookie is a calm, affectionate Chihuahua who may take a little time to warm up, but once she does, she will be your shadow. She loves nothing more than following her favourite person around the house, curling up for cuddles, and pawing at you until you give her the belly rubs she absolutely deserves. It's honestly the cutest thing you'll ever see.

Cookie came into foster care with very little life experience outside of her own world, so she's still learning that the big wide world isn't so scary. She's nervous with new people and unfamiliar situations — classic Chihuahua energy — and she'll let you know in true Chi fashion if something makes her uncomfortable. But with patience and a gentle approach, she's been making progress every day.

She gets along great with other dogs and has loved having canine companions in her foster home. She hasn't met any cats, and she'd do best with kids 14 and older who understand the importance of giving a shy pup her space.

Cookie is crate trained and does well for up to 6 hours without any fuss. She's pee pad trained and is still working on understanding that outside is also a great potty spot — it's a work in progress! She's also a bit of a picky eater and isn't thrilled about cold weather walks, so she's basically all of us in February.

Cookie is currently being treated for a slightly elevated liver level and is on medication. She'll need follow-up bloodwork in about a month — if her levels have normalized, she can come off the medication with no further concerns expected. She is also on a weight loss journey with a goal weight of around 7.5lbs.

Cookie's ideal home is calm and quiet, with someone who is home often and has experience with nervous and under-socialized dogs. She needs a patient adopter who will take things at her pace and let her confidence grow on her own timeline. She has so much love to give — she just needs someone willing to meet her where she is.

If you are interested in adopting Cookie, please complete an adoption application on our website.
