Conga's Story
**APPLICATIONS CLOSED** Conga is an amazing and sweet mutt that looks to be a spaniel and spitz cross of some kind. Rescued from the street in Bogota, Colombia, we don’t know her backstory but she is almost totally blind and totally perfect.

Conga is now loving life in Canada and has settled into her foster home here over the last 4 weeks. Of her personality, her foster mom says the following: “Conga is very, very, loving, she loves to cuddle, to be petted and to be talked to. She responds immediately to her name. (I wish she could keep her name). She gets along great with people, we had a few friends come over and she wagged her tail and enjoyed everyone petting her. When we come home from work she gets super excited and happy. Her favorite activity is going for walks. She walks very well on the leash, and she is the happiest when we take her out on walks. She also likes to sit on the deck and explore the backyard. She sleeps well through the night on her bed in our bedroom.”

On her visual impairment: “Being a vision impaired dog, her other senses are more developed. She uses her nose a lot. The first couple of days she walked very carefully and bounced into a few things, in a matter of 3-4 days she memorized the layout of our house (small bungalow) we put a gate to the basement stairs. She walks around very confidently and goes to the backyard and down/up the deck steps with no problem. To let her know that there is a step coming I just tell her: ‘Cuidado’ and she understand that a step up or down is coming and she figures it out quickly. For any step or obstacle, the word ‘Cuidado works. For more than one step I usually say ‘Cuidado’ and count the steps for her and then I say” okay” or “good job” and she understands she can continue walking. She is more independent than I expected.”

Conga is between 3 and 4 years old and 11. 3 kilos, so she’s a nice small-to-medium-sized dog. Conga is spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed and microchipped. She has also tested negative for heartworm and tick-borne diseases in a 4Dx test, has had a clear fecal analysis and urinalysis, all done in Canada since her arrival. Conga is also fully house trained.

She is not used to being home alone and in her foster home here as she lives with 3 other dogs (with no issues). In her Colombian foster home, she lived happily with 3 other dogs as well and one very grumpy cat. She is an easygoing dog. Due to her visual impairment, a home without small children would be best. Dog-savvy kids that are 10+ would be fine with her. She would be fine in a house or a condo. She must have her daily walks and lots of interaction with humans and (ideally) other animals. The rescue will also be paying to have Conga’s teeth cleaned, to give her the very best start to her new life.

We’ll let Conga’s foster mom have the final word too: “Conga is a beautiful, amazing, smart and loving girl. My wish is for her to find the best family that would love and understand her. Her vision impairment is not a barrier at all, she has a fully functioning happy life like any other dog.”

Conga’s adoption fee is $1100. 00. Save a Friend Dog Rescue conducts ongoing spay-neuter and public education campaigns in Colombia to help combat the pet overpopulation problem there. We therefore require our expenses to be fully covered from adoption fees so that we can continue our animal welfare work. Please visit our Facebook page and website for lots more photos, information on the adoption process and to download an application at: http://www.saveafrienddogrescue.org/dogs-for-adoption.html

If you think you’d be a match this amazing little pup, we’d love to hear from you!
