Due to this these pups are on the shyer side and need patient people who will give them time to get used to normal life. They are very sweet dogs: just need more time and patience. Cody was treated for HW and is doing great and finally got to come NYC to find his forever family. Cody would do best in a home with another dog, he needs it for his confidence, has never not lived with another pup"<br/><br/>Thier Foster Family Says: "Cody is a sweet angel boy and anyone would be lucky to have him in their lives. He is potty trained and will hold it until he's outside - he has never had an accident! We have yet to hear him bark once; he's truly quiet as a mouse. At just 16.8 lbs, he's the best kind of Chihuahua/Chiweenie low rider. Despite his incredibly heartbreaking start to life, he's not letting it define what's next for him. He walks like a dream by your side despite his fearful tendencies and is happiest relaxing during the day (very Chihuahua of him!) as long as he gets his three walks and an additional potty break before bed. We've found that one or two longer walks a day really help him work through some of his anxiety and fear, and he seems to genuinely enjoy exploring the world from the safety of your side. He's gotten along well with our other pup but definitely has a calm, chill personality. He mostly ignores other dogs and their bad behavior and is a pretty great influence! Coming from a hoarding situation, we think he's still quite desensitized to both people and dogs and tends to use avoidance as a way to cope when he's unsure. He could do really well with another calm, confident pup who is happy to snooze alongside him and give him his space. He's smart, curious, gentle, and we have a feeling there's so much more personality waiting to come out as he begins to understand that he's safe. He needs someone patient who isn't looking for immediate affection or a dog who will be in their lap on day one. What he needs is someone willing to let him move at his own pace and celebrate the little victories along the way. We think, with time, he's going to become an incredibly loyal little companion - and watching him slowly get braver is pretty special."<br/><br/>Level of dog ownership experience required:<br/>BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn't necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. <br/><br/>Energy level:<br/>MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they're understimulated.) <br/><br/>Okay in the city?<br/>We don't know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they've had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs. <br/><br/>Potty trained?<br/>Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help.<br/><br/>Social with other dogs?<br/>Yes, but we don't know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We'll learn more soon.<br/><br/>Social with cats?<br/>Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds. <br/><br/>Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)<br/>We're not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age carefully. <br/><br/>Medical status:<br/>Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake<br/><br/>How did this dog end up with Social Tees?<br/>Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. <br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old).
