Cody's Story

NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. He’s on our website as a cautionary tale… as his previous owner had him killed, rather than returned to our rescue.

Cody is approx 9 years old and such a wonderful dog! He has absolutely perfect house manners and is very gentle and loving with everyone he meets. He loves his walks, will run madly for the ball (it's got to be the lab part of him!) but loves to cuddle with his favorite person the MOST! It's so sad that he is homeless in the prime of his life: he's past the chewing stage, past the digging stage and just about the most PERFECT age to enjoy having a dog! The family who has him currently adopted Cody from us 2 years ago and want to give him up because he vomited on their carpet after they gave him high-fat table scraps (we even paid the vet bill to fix the pancreatitis they caused a few months ago by giving him high-fat puppy food) and now it was no longer "convenient" to keep him around.

UPDATE: 2-1-10 after contacting us to rehome Cody last Wednesday the owner, a local dentist and his wife, took him to County Animal Services this morning and had him euthanized - without even a call from Animal Control to make sure we wouldn't want him back! Sadly we had already lined up a new home for him and was in the process of arranging a visitation to make sure it would work out when we heard the news. We were devastated! The owners had assured us that we had until 2-3-10 to arrange the transfer and gave no clue as to their evil decision with this magnificent dog. All of us with the CCSPCA who love and care about the animals are just saddened, shocked and in disbelief that a so called "professional" man could even contemplate doing this to a dog that had had such a sad and lonely start in life. The CCSPCA will be making a decision soon regarding several options we have: they definitely opened themselves to a lawsuit for breach of contract when they agreed not to give, sell, or pass on any adopted pet without the written permission from the CCSPCA... that all pets were to come back to the CCSPCA if the owners are no longer able or willing to keep them... at the very least the CCSPCA could send a letter of intent to every shelter and rescue group in our adoption area to blacklist them from ever adopting again.
