Coco's Story
~ FROM NEGLECT TO HOPE
Alma and a small group of devoted rescuers were alerted to two adult dogs and two puppies living in a backyard, sometimes tied to trees, without food or water and sometimes left to wander the streets just to survive. Despite the neglect, these loyal souls always found their way back to that house, trusting the only life they knew. When Alma saw them, she couldn’t turn away. They were frail, filthy, painfully thin, and covered in ticks and fleas. Their hunger was impossible to ignore. When she asked the owner if she could take them, he agreed without hesitation, calling them a burden. He admitted they were only kept as “alarms,” tied to trees to warn them of strangers. He said they were so thin because he couldn’t and didn’t want to take care of them. Even worse, he told her that if she didn’t take them, they would be dumped in the mountains. That moment changed everything for the four pups. They were taken to the vet, where tests thankfully came back negative for life-threatening illnesses. With deworming, vitamins, and proper care, their healing began and so did their chance of a brighter future. Coco was one of those puppies.

Coco is about 8 months old, weighs 12 kilos, and is a charming German Shepard mix.

Today, this sweet soul has left her painful past behind and is discovering what love, safety, and a home feels like; she is waiting for a forever family to choose her and show that she was always worth loving. Coco gets along beautifully with adult women and men, as well as teenagers, and she loves welcoming visitors to the shelter with her happy puppy energy. She spends her days playing with other dogs, running, exploring, and burning energy the way a young pup should. She’s learning to walk on a leash and takes mealtime very seriously, rushing to her bowl and then checking the others, just in case someone needs help finishing their food. Coco happily shares toys and her favorite napping spots, and even though she spends much of her day outdoors, loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks don’t faze her. Coco will thrive with an active family willing to continue her training and, most importantly, show her that she is safe, loved, and truly belongs as part of a family.

Coco’s adoption fee is $550, which includes her flight, spay, vaccinations, and full vetting.
