Coco's Story

Meet this incredibly resilient 2-year-old shepherd mix who is ready to experience what a real home should feel like for the very first time.

Her life hasn't been an easy one. After being given to her previous owner as a puppy, she spent much of her time confined to a basement, and later, alone in a trailer. For months, she lived in isolation, with someone stopping by every couple of days to leave scraps of human food. With no guidance or routine, she learned to survive the only way she could, even teaching herself to use the bathtub as her bathroom.

Despite everything she has been through, she has never shown aggression toward people. She is incredibly friendly and genuinely enjoys being around humans. She has accepted new people with great joy, and it's clear how much she craves connection. She also loves to play with toys, and watching her discover play and joy is something really special.

Since coming into our care, she's already started to transform. She is now eating dog food and doing well with a consistent feeding routine. She absolutely thrives on the daily attention she receives from staff and volunteers, soaking up every bit of kindness she's given. When provided with a routine she can depend on, she has truly begun to flourish.

Her story is one of quiet endurance and untapped potential. She simply hasn't been given the chance to learn what it means to be a dog in a loving home.

She is still starting from scratch in many ways. She has not had formal training and is continuing to learn what consistency, structure, and guidance look like. But what she does have is a clean slate and the ability to build a deep bond with someone willing to be patient and show her the way.

We are not yet sure how she does with other dogs or cats, so slow and thoughtful introductions will be important.

She will need an understanding adopter who can help her continue learning the basics, including potty training, structure, and routine. In return, you'll get the opportunity to completely change a life and watch her blossom into the dog she was always meant to be.

After everything she's endured, she's more than ready to finally be someone's dog.
