Coco's Story
11/1/2023

Meet Cocoa
Cocoa is about 12 years young, 8.5 lbs, short coat chocolate tri colored female that was surrendered because her owner was moving and couldn't take her with her.

Cocoa is shy at first but will warm up quickly to strangers and become your best friend in no time, some men might take longer. Aren't I cute? Once I warm up, I'm a happy loving little girl that will enjoy just cuddling on the couch, going for short walks or running around the yard playing. I came into rescue overweight and lost over 5 lbs. and will need someone to continue to keep her weight off. I do love to play with my foster puppies and chew maro bones. Cocoa has done well here in foster care and has bonded with her foster Mommy and Daddy. Cocoa enjoys a sunny spot and hanging out in the sun!

Cocoa is really smart and would benefit from someone who won't treat her as if she's small and not let her be the pack leader. She does snarl at you when you go to bed or leave the house so someone that is home or works from home would be best. I believe she just wants to cuddle on the couch all day. She does not have separation anxiety or damage anything while your away.

Cocoa is completely house trained, both outdoors or pee pad, crate trained and will need someone to continue with potty pads. She walks well on the leash and would make the right person the perfect companion. She does sleep quietly in kitchen area or in her bed at night but would prefer a human bed, who wouldn't. No children under 13 and as long as they know to respect animals. She would give the right person so much love and loyalty.

Cocoa does have heart murmur and is on heart meds life long. We had an echocardiogram to evaluate her heart murmur and she has been diagnosed with heart disease.
Recommendations:
• Pimobendan (Vetmedin).5.0 mg 1/2 am and 1/4 pm life long
• Enalapril 2.5 mg Give 1/4 tablet twice daily life long.
• Amlodipine 2.5 mg 1/2 pill once daily am life long
• We recommend using a harness vs. a collar to reduce pressure on the trachea and short walks
• Check blood work for renal values every 6 months while on this medication.
• There is increased risk for anesthesia, If anesthesia is required in the future than an assessment of risk should be considered.
• Recommend recheck echocardiogram and blood pressure check in 6 months or earlier if the patient experiences persistent coughing not responsive to current medications, exercise intolerance, syncope or collapse, or sustained increased resting respiratory rate greater than 30 beats per minute.

Cocoa's heart meds are about $65.00 for Vetmedin, Enalpril & Amlodipine for a 30 day supply. She has been in rescue for over 2 years and shown no decline in health.

Coco is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, micro chipped, HW neg.
Please note we are NOT A SHELTER. YCRAA aims to long term fit matches with our adoptions and we have a life time take back guarantee!
