Coco's Story

Coco is our super happy and fiesty disabled pup. She most likely had some kind of injury as a puppy that prevented her from being able to use her back legs. Our vet originally thought Swimmer's Syndrome but more recently changed his diagnosis to a soft tissue injury. Because she is very active, she was dragging her back legs or "hopping" everywhere which was causing a lot of injury to her legs and feet. We decided to amputate her back legs and now she gets around so much better!

Coco is a tough little girl who LOVES her to tear it up outside. She would bite and refuse to use a traditional wheelchair but she loves her "boogie boards" and "skate boards". We built a few mobility devices just for her to keep her comfortable, protected and able to move around in a way she enjoys.

Coco is spayed, vaccinated, on prevention and microchipped. She's hoping to find a family dedicated to giving her the best life possible! She loves some other dogs and can be fiesty initially but with a proper meet, she does well. She loves our other disabled pup, Joey and they often play tug-of-war and just hang together. She seems mostly indifferent to cats.

We recommend older children with Coco since she can get a little nippy if she wants your attention or if she "catches" you in a game of tag.

Coco's daily care involves getting her on a schedule to potty, cleaning up any accidents, helping her into pads so she doesn't rub her back end raw, helping her into her mobility devices that she can wear all day, and just daily cleanliness. We do give her a D-Mannose supplement to prevent UTIs but she doesn't take any medication. If you'd like more information on Coco, please message us at Happy Tails Ranch Rescue. We also have a FB page with more posts about her story!
