Coco's Story
Coco was surrendered to River Rouge Animal Shelter because her owner has significant medical issues and can no longer care for her.

Her pressure sores tell us that this girl has spent a lot of time on cement. She is slow to get up after a long night on the couch - and oh, has she learned to love the couch! At the vet’s recommendation, she has started taking joint supplements and we are hoping those provide a little extra comfort for this old girl.

At 10, she is considered a senior but don’t let that fool you. She is 60 pounds of strength and determination - she has both the love to give and the energy to keep on giving!

Coco’s loves include belly rubs, peanut butter Kongs, car rides, pup cups from Starbucks, peanut butter treats, soft blankets and…did we mention peanut butter? She has no idea that she's a big girl and she considers herself a lap dog - she loves to love her people. She just about wiggles out of her skin when you approach her and wants all of the pets you can give. Coco would do well with adopters who are home more often than not.
Her owner told us that she is good with other dogs but does not care for cats.

Coco has been a mama to 22 puppies in her lifetime; she was spayed on March 8th and also had surgery to remove a mammary mass, which did come back as a grade 2 carcinoma (cancerous) but it was completely removed and x-rays do not show metastasis to other organs.

Coco doesn’t know commands but we believe, in time, this old dog COULD learn some new tricks. She’s already learned about car rides for pup cups, couches and peanut butter.

Coco does NOT like to walk. Unless it's to the car for a ride to Starbucks for a pup cup, count her out. If you attempt to walk her around the block, she is going to lie her 60-pound self down and refuse to move. She is too big to move against her will so...plan on this big old girl having a VERY low activity level.

Coco needs a fenced yard so that she can be let outside - walkies will not do. She is strong when she wants to move forward and stubborn and heavy when she doesn't.

Coco and her old joints are all about the chill life. Who's going to give this girl a couch to lie on and a fenced yard to roam?

Though she is NOT at the shelter, she is in a room that is part of the garage and still spends about 18 hours a day alone. She has been a wonderful guest and we were thrilled to be able to help this girl stay out of the shelter but she is such a loving dog (she would live in your pocket if she could!) that we really want to get her into her forever home.

If you have the love and time to give this senior girl, please reach out to her foster mom (me!) directly at nikib429@yahoo.com and I will be happy to tell you all about her!
