Cochise's Story
Meet Cochise

This handsome yellow Lab mix is one of the gentlest dogs you'll ever meet. When he first arrived at our sanctuary, it was clear he hadn't had much guidance or structure in his life. He wasn't lacking in affection, though. In fact, he was a big, lovable baby who wanted nothing more than to be close to people and soak up every bit of kindness he could get.

When we rescued him, he was thin and clearly had gone without enough food for far too long. At mealtimes, he just couldn't seem to get enough to eat, as if he wasn't sure when his next meal would come. With regular meals, good care, and lots of love, he's learned that food will always be there and he no longer has to worry about going hungry.

One of the biggest signs that he hadn't had much training was that he didn't even know how to walk on a leash, he would just lay down! Everyday things that many dogs learn as puppies were completely new to him but as soon as he found out that indoors was nice and cool, he didn't hesitate to attach those stairs! He does well in a large crate and will be easy to housetrain.

He also really enjoys the company of other dogs. He's been a wonderful companion to the dogs here at the sanctuary, playing nicely and getting along well with them. Whether it's playtime in the yard or simply relaxing together, he seems happiest when he has canine friends around.

What stands out most about him is his sweet, gentle nature. Underneath his size, he's really just a big blubbering baby with a heart of gold. He loves attention, loves companionship, and is ready to give his whole heart to a family of his own.

He is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and up to date on flea and tick prevention. Now all he needs is a home that will continue helping him build confidence and learn the things he missed early in life.

If you're looking for a kind, loyal dog who gets along well with other dogs and has endless love to give, this sweet Lab mix may be the perfect addition to your family.

If you'd like more information about Cochise, please call or text Laura at (641) 919-1289 or email friends@heavenlypet.org for an application.
