Clare's Story

My name is Clare. I am a Schnauzer/Terrier mix who was probably born anywhere from 2000 to 2003. If a picture is worth a thousand words, you can see from my before photo that I have been through a dreadful ordeal. Sorry I can't tell you more about it, but it would only make you cry if I could. I was almost dead and couldn't get anyone to help me. Then one cold day an angel from Animal Allies saw me. Fortunately, those AAT people brake for needy ones like me. She picked me up from the street and took me right home. Within a few minutes I had food, water, a warm safe bed and lots of love. The vet said I had a lot of problems and it will take awhile until I am ready for my forever home. But I am getting stronger. I have fur now, and I can walk without my legs letting me down. I'm allowed on the furniture at my foster home, but I still can't quite jump up on the sofa without help. My heartworm treatment is completely finished--no more heartworms!! Now I am on monthly heart worm preventative tablets just like every dog should be!! Everything went so well that Dr. Norris said I will be ready to be spayed and have my dental work in April. I am just a happy girl…. I love running around the backyard, playing and barking. Walks and rides in the car are my favorites. Check out the funny new picture of me. I have so much hair now that I look like a sheepdog. I am getting groomed soon and my foster mom will post a picture of me with my new hairdo after that.I will be ready for a loving family of my own sometime this summer (2010).

My foster mom says I am a real dream girl and have never been a problem. I am housetrained, I love to walk on my lead, I get along great with all the other dogs, and I really like the cats. I listen well and never have to be asked more than once to go into my crate when it is time. They say I am a "senior" but right now I feel like a puppy.

Note: When we come across a dog like Clare we really can't understand how she was allowed to suffer almost to the point of death without someone noticing and intervening. Clair was obviously someone's baby at some point. She is sweet, good-natured, feisty, sure of herself, and seems very accustomed to being bathed and groomed. She is one of the older dogs on our site, but she has a many good years left to be someone's baby again.

P.S. from Clare:
Dr. Norris said I might be getting a bit "pudgy." I don't know what that means, but when my foster mom heard about it she just said 'have another treat Clare-bear.'
