Clara's Story
This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area.

NAME: Clara
GENDER: Female (Will be Spayed)
AGE: About 2 years
WEIGHT: About 7.4 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be fine with older, mature children (13 and older)
AVAILABLE: Early February

Introducing adorable Clara. This girl has a gentle and loving spirit and is looking for a forever family to share her life with.

On Monday Dec 1st, Chihuahua Rescue & Transport received an emergency call for help from a Good Samaritan trying to find a safe place for a neighbor’s Chihuahuas – a mom with 4 one-week-old puppies. All were living in the backyard with no shelter from rain or frigid temps. The mom and puppies were confined in a small wire kennel.

The owners were unwilling to bring the Chihuahua family inside. They informed the neighbor that they would be leaving the country by the end of this week and had no plan for their dogs other than to leave them behind. They told her if she could find a place for their dogs, they would happily surrender them. Urgently, she reached out to us, “They’re freezing. They won’t make it if someone doesn’t come now.” We immediately drove to rescue the family and a few hours later they were safe in a CRT foster home. Clara was the Mom of this family. She faithfully fed and cared for her four puppies. They are now weaned and it is Clara’s time for her own family. She will shortly be taking the “no puppy pledge” (IE will be spayed) and she will then be ready for her forever family.

Clara adores her foster family. She craves human love and affection. Clara loves her foster Dad the most (but doesn’t want you to tell her foster Mom – LOL). When her foster Dad comes home from work, Clara meets him at the door and is literally jumping up and down with excitement! Oh this is so sweet to see. Clara definitely identifies as a lap dog. She loves to be in a lap most of all. She loves belly rubs and ear scratches. You’ll never find a dog who looks more adoringly at you than Clara! Clara is a little cautious when she meets new people and will bark to let you know a new person has arrived. But she settles down once she knows everything is ok and that everyone in the home is safe.

Clara gets along with the other small dog in her foster home. She has slowly begin to play and to nap with her. Clara can’t believe she has a buddy her age to hang around with! Clara loves being in the backyard. She loves loves LOVES the sun and will lay for hours to sun herself. If you love to garden, Clara will hang outside with you and supervise. Clara has also discovered toys. We wonder if she ever had them in her previous life. Every day, Clara takes every single toy out of the toy box, trots around the house, and leaves them scattered in strategic places. Then she always has one close. At night, her foster family returns the toys to their box, only to start over the next day. It warms our heart to see Clara take pleasure in the simplest things in life – like toys!

Clara is adorable in all aspects and wants to be your best friend! Clara has a gentle personality. Her tail is constantly wagging and she is so happy to be around you. She loves to follow you around the house to see what you are working on. Whatever it is, she wants to be a part of it.

Our vet estimates that Clara is about 2 years old. She currently weighs about 7.4 pounds which is the perfect size for her. She has a beautiful golden coat with white highlights. We love her face and her ears.

Clara is perfect with her potty training. She has only had one accident in her foster home and that was on day one when she did not know where the back door was! She has been perfect since then. Clara is crate trained and will go straight to her crate when you say “time for bed”. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate. Clara also will walk well on a harness and leash. We have been taking her on daily walks which she enjoys. She sometimes get startled with loud noises on her walks, but is getting more and more comfortable.

The ideal home for Clara would be one with moderate energy. She would love to have another dog to grow up with. We have noticed that she cries when her humans leave to run errands, but her dog buddy helps her feel more comfortable. Clara needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). She does bark at strange noises, so we do not think she would do well in an apartment environment. We have noticed she can be a door dasher, so we recommend a secure barrier around your front door. There are no children in her foster home, but she is a friendly little girl. We think with her background and her cautious nature, she would do best with children 13 and older.

Clara is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. If this sweet girl sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Note: it works best when our application is filled out on a computer versus a phone or tablet. When the application submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. If you do not receive a copy into your email que, it did not submit. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Clara will be spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, HW negative. and on heartworm prevention. She will complete her vet work in early February and will be ready to join a loving family at that time – could that family be yours? We are taking applications now.

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
