Cinnamon's Story

Meet Cinnamon, a 2 year old, 40 lb sweet as sugar pittie mix. Before rescue, Cinnamon’s life was far from what she deserved - she was kept on a chain 24/7, with no walks, no air conditioning, and forced to sit in her own waste. Despite such a difficult start, Cinnamon’s spirit shines through, and she’s blossoming into a playful, affectionate girl who’s ready for a fresh start. Cinnamon is crate trained (with a Kong or lick mat to keep her busy) and making steady progress with potty training - she has already gone several days accident free! She’s very quiet indoors and is happy to just follow her human around and get lots of cuddles. She absolutely adores other dogs and loves to play, especially with pups who have a more easygoing, non-dominant personality. She can be a little cautious when meeting new people, but with slow introductions and a few tasty treats, she warms up and shows just how loving she really is. Once she trusts you, she’s all heart and has shown nothing but sweetness toward her foster family, even during baths, nail trims, and any sort of handling.

On leash, Cinnamon walks beautifully and is already a smart student who knows cues like sit, down, place, and crate. She’s currently working on “leave it,” “touch,” and learning to greet new people on her own terms. This resilient girl has bounced back and blossomed, and she is ready to find a forever family who will love and cherish her. Their rescue is a testament to community, teamwork, and quick action by several caring people in the NJ/NY area. Here’s what happened:

A Good Samaritan spotted a post on the Nextdoor app advertising a “free pitbull” - that dog was Cinnamon. Knowing how dangerous this could be for an unspayed young pittie, they acted immediately by contacting the owner, urging them to take the post down, and promised to help connect them with a rescue who could ensure the dog’s safety. From there, the rescue community worked its magic. Word spread quickly, with multiple rescues and volunteers stepping in to help.

When a volunteer went to meet Cinnamon, they discovered she wasn’t alone - there was another dog, a 7 year old male named Mamba in the apartment as well. They were found in heartbreaking conditions - living in a stifling apartment with no air conditioning during a brutal heatwave. Their “collars” were just strings tied around their necks that were attached to metal chains, giving the dogs only 2 feet of freedom. They had no access to the outdoors and were forced to live in their own urine and feces. The odor permeated the apartment. Volunteers coordinated to help out in whatever they could - walking the dogs, bringing them beds and toys, and cleaning their living space to give them some immediate relief.

One of our fosters at BDRP saw the online buzz and told us about Cinnamon and Mamba. We knew we could help when foster offers started coming in and so,
within hours, we were able to get them out of the awful conditions they had been living in. Both dogs have now received the vet care they had long been denied - for Cinnamon, it was her very first visit, and for Mamba, it was his first since he was just 2 months old. Thanks to the power of a community who refused to look the other way, Cinnamon and Mamba are finally safe, loved, and on their way to a better life. We will have an update and bios for each dog soon!!

If interested in adopting, please complete our NE application using the link below -

https://bit.ly/BDRPNEAPP
