Chopper's Story
Chopper is back at the shelter and again seeking his forever home. He had a great run with his adopter's family and we learned more about him during that time, but it didn't work out.

*Chopper loves water.
*He gets along with every dog he meets.
*While cautious about felines, he has been respectful.
*Chopper did not do well with a goat but did ok with chickens under a watchful eye.
*Chopper can use a doggy door.
*Chopper is an escape artist and he has managed to get out of all the containment we and his adopters have tried save a kennel with a roof.

His adopters had this to say about him:
"Chopper was not kenneled while with us, except at dinner time, which he eagerly agreed to. He loved dinner time. I prepare turkey, veggies and fresh eggs for the dogs for dinner every night. He had a fully fenced large yard, with 24/7 indoor outdoor access, and plenty of toys. He is a master fence climber, but when we hot wired the top, it only took 1 time and he stopped climbing over and starting digging under. He mastered the doggy door quickly. Chopper is an absolute sweetheart, however he was destructive and liked to destroy things that weren't his. I don't know if it was separation anxiety or boredom, a need to chew....just not sure. Chopper had his DNA tested and is 50% Labrador Retriever and 50% German Shepard. He is SMART, and wants to please. Very well mannered on a leash. Loads up in the truck easily and rides great ( backseat, not the bed). He is ok with chickens so long as they have a way to escape him (secured run Chopper can't enter) He likes to chase them, but not to hurt them, he thinks it is playing.
Chopper has his multi year rabies vaccine and was estimated to be 3-4 years of age by our Vet. He is VERY shy at first, but warms up quickly. We thought perhaps he was afraid of men (you can tell he has been abused, just the words "bad dog" make him cower), however he bonded quickly with my husband.
Chopper had 2 doggy siblings he played with, they all got along great, except Chopper was a couch hog and Mork didn't appreciate that. Because my husband and I are gone 50-60 hours a week for work, we were unable to give the time needed to work with him and break the bad habits. Chopper needs a full time family, someone who can be with him most of the day, and teach him , help break the destructive habits. I sincerely hope someone who has this time gives Chopper a chance. I bawled like a baby taking him back to the shelter, but we couldn't continue the way things were going. We have his kennel, dog bed, food bowl and a few toys we will happily donate to anyone that adopts Chopper for the long haul. Please someone give Chopper another chance."

Unfortunately this is Chopper's 2nd adoption return and he is once again the dog who has been at our facility the longest. If you are interested in adoption please come meet him this week. Shelter is open T/T/F/Sat 12-4, or call 530-623-1370 option 1 to speak with shelter staff.
