Chocolate

Chocolate is a recent intake from one of our shelter partners after being found as a stray. The shelter estimated her at around 8 yrs old, but we're not so sure she's quite that old - perhaps closed to 3-4 yrs. <br/><br/>Chocolate is very sweet and food motivated. She is quiet and clean in her kennel, and walks well on a leash. She would be happy to show you what a smart girl she is with both "sit" and "paw". <br/>We have not yet tested her with another dog, but do not expect a problem with her easy going nature. She has not been tested with cats either but it can be done on request. <br/><br/>Chocolate has an eye condition called pannus, or chronic superficial keratitis. This condition primarily occurs in German Shepherds and causes inflammation of the third eyelid and scarring and pigmentation of the surface of the eye. In Chocolate's case, she has some pigmentation and scarring, worse on the right eye. She can still see and navigates just fine, but she may have some decreased vision acuity and occasionally seems a little startled by things that come on quickly. Her depth perception may also be affected. She will require daily eye medication for the rest of her life - but it's very easy to administer! Treatment doesn't cure the condition, but stops the progression and may reverse some of the inflammation.<br/><br/>Chocolate is vaccinated, microchipped, and on a monthly heartworm prevention. Seniors are special to us, so we offer two options:<br/><br/>(1) If your heart has a special place for the seniors, you can adopt a senior dog for the regular adoption fee of $400 and this becomes a perpetual fee.
