CHLOE--ADOPTION PENDING 's Story
Age: 10 years
Weight: 3lbs
Location: Mississauga
Medical Condition: Epilepsy
Adoption fee: $400

At just 3lbs, Chloe is proof that the best companions sometimes come in the tiniest packages.

It’s clear that Chloe has had limited exposure to new people and dogs in her past, which has resulted in her being under-socialized. When she feels anxious, she may bark, growl, or try to nip to keep threats at a distance. But now that Chloe has settled in with her foster family, her true personality has surfaced. She struts around the house like she owns it and keeps everyone in line with her spicy little attitude.

Chloe has suffered from focal seizures for several years, and since joining CCRT, she has received a full health assessment and is now taking daily medication. Her current meds (Keppra) are approximately $75 per month. She is showing improvement - a positive sign, but there may be additional medication added in the future as we continue working toward control of her seizures. This means that Chloe’s adopter would need to be prepared to commit to the cost of medication and the ongoing monitoring of her health.

Also, Chloe had significant dental disease when she first arrived in foster care, and this required most of her teeth being extracted. This hasn’t affected her at all; she loves her food and treats! Aside from her seizures, Chloe is a healthy and lively 10-year-old Chihuahua.

Her favourite activity is snuggling with her foster mom and the other humans she has learned to trust. She can still be nervous about being picked up and will sometimes turn it into a game of chase before settling into one of her beds. She does best with people she knows and trusts, and she currently relies on her foster mom to help introduce her to others for cuddle time. Because she’s so tiny, Chloe doesn’t do stairs and uses a ramp to get onto the couch. She is pee-pad trained. She walks well on a leash, but daily walks have been very limited due to the extreme cold weather this winter.

Chloe is currently being fostered with two other dogs. She is mostly comfortable with the resident, smaller 6lb chihuahua, but can be bossy with the larger 12lb dog and barks, growls and tries to bully him. At times, she tries to ‘police’ their playtime. As a result, we believe Chloe would do best as a solo dog or with another small, calm dog.

Chloe’s favourite things in life are snuggles, treats, and being the tiny supervisor of the house. She would make a wonderful companion for a retired individual or with an adopter who is at home the majority of the day. Chloe needs an adopter who understands that building trust takes time and one who can offer her steady routines and gentle guidance. She would be okay in a home with older, respectful children.

Chloe has had a veterinarian wellness check, is microchipped, spayed, administered flea/tick prevention meds, and is up to date on her vaccinations.
