Chickpea's Story

**HAS BEEN TREATED FOR LYME DISEASE

Chickpea is a 7-month-old Beagle puppy weighing around 20 pounds who is just beginning to discover what life can be like beyond the outdoors. She came to the shelter after living in conditions that didn’t allow her the chance to fully thrive, and she’s now learning about comfort, kindness, and consistency.

Chickpea is a sweet, gentle girl with a soft personality. She can be a little shy when meeting new people or facing unfamiliar situations, but once she feels safe, her silly puppy side starts to peek through. She’s curious, observant, and happiest when things are calm and predictable.

Because Chickpea has likely never lived inside a home, her future family should be prepared to help her learn all the basics — house routines, schedules, and what it means to be a beloved indoor companion. With patience and reassurance, she will continue to gain confidence and blossom.

On her previous property, there was a cat present that freely moved among the dogs outdoors. While this exposure is noted, any home with a cat should plan for slow, proper introductions and ongoing supervision to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety.

Chickpea would do best with a family who understands that love and security take time — and who will celebrate each small milestone along the way.

Veterinary Care:
Chickpea is spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested, and current on all age-appropriate vaccinations. She has been dewormed and is on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.

Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
