Chica's Story

Meet Chica | 1-Year-Old Heeler Mix

Chica's story begins with change — the kind that's confusing and scary for a young dog. At just one year old, she was surrendered by a family who loved her but could no longer provide the care she needed. She spent much of her life as an outdoor dog, and now she's learning what it means to feel safe, seen, and truly part of a family.

Because of her past, Chica can be a little timid when she finds herself in new environments or meeting new people. The world is still big and unfamiliar to her — but give her time, patience, and kindness, and you'll see something truly special emerge. Once Chica realizes you're a friend, her walls come down and her heart opens wide. She becomes incredibly affectionate, soaking up attention and quietly leaning into the love she's been missing.

Chica is the kind of dog who bonds deeply. She may not rush into your arms right away, but when she trusts you, it's for life. She thrives with gentle reassurance, consistent care, and someone who understands that love doesn't always come loud — sometimes it comes soft, slow, and sincere.

When she's feeling comfortable, Chica's playful side shines. She enjoys a good game of fetch and takes her “bury the bone” duties very seriously — carefully hiding her treasures like a little professional. These moments of joy are where you see her confidence grow, one wag at a time.

Chica is looking for a patient, loving home where she can continue learning what it means to be cherished. She doesn't need perfection — just someone willing to meet her where she is and show her that the world can be kind.

If you're searching for a loyal companion, a gentle soul, and a dog who will love you with her whole heart once she feels safe... Chica is waiting for you.

There will be information listed about the pet on that page as well. After you have spoken with a foster parent with Hands 'N Paws and have chosen a pet(s), you will be directed to fill out an Adoption Contract. Our adoptions are done on a first come first service basis unless a hold is placed on the pet(s). The hold is for up to 7 days and may be done when the Adoption Contract is submitted. You may place a hold by paying the Hold Fee of $25 per pet. The Hold Fee of $25 is Non-Refundable and will be in addition to the Adoption Fee. You may instead pay the full Adoption Fee which will also hold the pet(s). After 7 days, if the pet(s) have not been picked up, any fees paid will be forfeited and will be considered a donation to Hands 'N Paws Animal Assistance. The adoption fee may be paid on our website using our Donation Button or at the end of the adoption contract. When that is completed, the pick up arrangements can be made and you new family will go home with you. We do have regular events at Hale's Farm at Feed at 1510 W Basin Street, Ephrata WA on the 2nd and 5th Saturday's of each month from 10am to 2pm.
