CHEWIE-OHIO's Story

*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

Meet Charming Chewie, a 3 year-old male Mini Labradoodle who is in an IDOG foster home in Lima. Ohio. Chewie loves an adventure & everyone he meets is his BFF!

*Please read ALL the information in Chewie's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.

*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Chewie, please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of his adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: 3 years old (born December 2022)

*WEIGHT: 38 lbs. He is a very picky eater & was underweight when he arrived in foster care. He has gained 5 lbs. His previous owner thought the stress of being crated for long hours while he was at work caused Chewie not to eat. His new family will have to be diligent in getting him to eat. Getting plenty of exercise helps a lot! He would do best in a home where someone is home more often where he doesn’t spend long hours in a crate.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence & yard are required as we feel this would help set him up for success. No electronic/invisible fences, or e-collars will be allowed.

*COAT TYPE: gorgeous, soft, curly, lower-shedding coat. You should be prepared to brush him often (he loves being brushed) & have him groomed regularly (every 6-8 weeks) with an estimated cost of $120/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: fun puppy energy; he is very athletic, fast & goofy. He loves a good game of chase with dogs in his foster home & enjoys rough play & is vocal when playing. He doesn’t seem to realize how rough he is so will need supervision when rough housing. He easily walks two miles & seems happy to explore new places.

*DOGS: Great! He gets along amazingly with the 2 large dogs in his foster home. He wrestles with both of them at the same time! He may have too much puppy-like energy & strength for older or smaller dogs. Due to his playful nature he would thrive in a home with dog(s) with a similar desire to interact & play.

*CATS: Chewie is currently living with 3 cats. At first he would chase them but he has mostly lost interest in the chase. One of the cats will sleep with him in his crate. Chewie will chew up &/or eat cat toys.

*KIDS: Ages 12+ who are comfortable around a dog who will likely jump on them. He is very friendly & outgoing with men & women. He likes to jump & mouth fingers so would do best in a home with older children. He will need continued training to help him be a well-mannered boy.

*CAR: LOVES car rides! He wants to jump around in the car & it's probably best to have him in a dog seatbelt.

*CRATE: He LOVES his crate! His crate door is always open except for when we leave. He will counter-surf if given the chance & isn't completely trustworthy to be left uncrated when we are gone. He has tried to chew my Crocs shoes & has carried socks into his crate. He will happily nap in his crate during the day for a couple of hours. Most nights he chooses to sleep in his crate but has also slept with his foster parents. He will chew up a dog bed or crate pad in his crate (& possibly eat it!) so we have towels in his crate to lay on. He is happy & relaxed in his crate. He has an awesome, sturdy crate with wheels that will come with him to his adoptive home.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! He has had no accidents in foster care. He goes near the door when he wants to be let out to potty.

*LEASH: He is learning leash manners & he walks pretty well with his foster dogs & people. He would benefit from additional leash training as he can quickly get to the end of his leash & pull if you are not paying attention. He is confident & curious when out for a walk & wants to meet everyone he sees.

*AT THE VET: Chewie was fully vetted when he arrived so there were no vet visits while in foster care. He was taken to the vet's office on several occasions to get his microchip scanned & to get his weight. On two occasions he lifted his leg & peed on their display case.

*AT THE GROOMER: While in foster care, Chewie was groomed by his foster mom & was a very good boy! His previous owner stated he was calm at the groomer.

Chewie came in to IDOG as an owner surrender. His owner loved him dearly but was working 12 hour days & knew Chewie would be happier in a home where he wasn’t crated all day.

Chewie is a very lovable boy & absolutely loves to cuddle. He hasn’t shown anxiety in his foster home & seems to settle in his crate when the foster family leaves. He is a super sweet goofy boy who loves an adventure, belly rubs & positive feedback.

Chewie is smart (he knows several commands- sit, shake, lay down & we are working on sneeze). He knows his name & is treat-motivated & an eager learner. For relaxation he takes his chew bone into his crate so he can have some alone time.

He would thrive in an active home with another similarly playful dog. He is quite the social butterfly. He is curious & will need continued supervision & boundary setting while learning good manners. A home with older children would be most suitable since he tends to mouth hands/fingers to get attention & when he’s excited. He has spurts of high energy, sometimes jumps & may be too much for young/ small children. He matches the energy of the home so we think a calm home where he gets a lot of exercise to expend his energy would be ideal.

He is very athletic & would thrive with a fenced in yard where he can stretch his legs & burn off some of his energy. He also enjoys walks on a leash so he can explore the world. He is happy to go on adventures. He was the only dog in his previous home; we think he would enjoy having another dog for company in his forever home. He has been a very happy boy playing with the Doodles in his foster home. He is still learning to take cues from his foster pups & requires supervision with play as he gets over-zealous at times.

Adjectives that describe Chewie:
*Handsome
*Confident
*Charming
*Smart
*Curious explorer
*Very friendly
*Outgoing
*Goofy
*Energetic
*Athletic
*Playful
*Snuggly
*Affectionate

Activities that Chewie enjoys:
-Tug-with people & with other dogs
-Loves to play “keep away” with foster dogs.
-Fetch- he is still learning to bring the ball back ;). Must be supervised with tennis balls as he will eat them.
-Walking-Chewie loves to explore, he is adventurous & confident on walks
-Chew toys- Chewie really enjoys strong chew toys & balls. He will chew up & try to eat stuffed animals, cat toys, squeaky toys & tennis balls.
-Cuddling- when he’s tired he’ll curl up with his person. He loves to be in the bathroom with you.
-Meeting new people- Chewie is very outgoing & happy to meet new people & of course new dogs too
-Playing with other dogs- he loves to run fast & wrestle with his foster dogs (he needs supervision with play until he understands social cues from other dogs.)

A few ‘needs work’ items for Chewie:
--Chewie is a bit “mouthy.” He likes to “mouth” on hands/fingers- He tends to do it when he gets excited while playing with people. He will need continued redirection & consistent reinforcement of more desired behavior in his forever home. Due to this he may not be suitable for a family with small children.
--Chewie also likes to jump on people. He will need continued training to help him be a well mannered boy.

--Chewie is an athletic boy who sometimes likes to play rough/wrestle (not aggressive). A dog with a similar temperament would be best for Chance’s success in a forever home. He seems to match the energy of the home so a calmer home may be ideal for him. Older & smaller dogs may not be suitable for Chewie's occasional high energy play.

Chewie is neutered, house trained, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, & heartworm/flea tick preventives. His heartworm & fecal tests were negative.

ADOPTION FEE: $575 adoption fee

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR CHEWIE-OHIO, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

IDOG Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
BEFORE YOU APPLY Please consider all aspects before applying to adopt a dog. Rescue dogs usually come with a few issues and we prefer applicants that have realistic expectations and dog experience. We prefer a physical fence in most cases but will consider this on a case by case basis. Please read through all the information on our website before completing the application. To adopt one of our dogs you MUST first complete our online application. We do require an interview. In addition, a home visit will be required. We only adopt dogs to families who will keep them as inside pets. If you are not willing to work with your new rescue dog and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of our dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog. Rescuing a dog is a lifetime commitment and if you give your all, you will get a great friend in return. They need time and patience. WHO WE ARE IDOG Rescue is a national U.S. foster-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and has remained in good standing with the IRS since 2006 when IDOG was created. IDOG has been offering rescue and rehome services to Doodles, Standard Poodles and Poodle mixes since 2006. We have helped over 3,700 Doodles and Poodles to date. IDOG Rescue was the first specific rescue for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles and is endorsed by both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Goldendoodle Association of America. IDOG is an approved Rescue Partner in shelters across the country and has an outstanding reputation for helping Doodles in need, no matter what color, age or health status. LOCATION OF DOGS IDOG has dogs in foster homes all over the U.S. Please see the location listed in the dog's name (for example, Toby-TX is located in a foster home in TX). In most instances, you will be required to live within driving distance of where the dog is located and to visit the dog in person. IDOG does not ship or transport dogs unless this option is stated in the listing. Shipping is stressful on the dog, and stressful for the volunteer who has to spend many hours preparing the dog and the paperwork, transporting and waiting at airports. It is not simply a matter of paying the shipping charge. We will only ship a dog if we cannot find it a home near where it is being fostered. ADOPTION FEES All of our IDOGs have an adoption fee that is non-negotiable and non-refundable. OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. We will require the adoption fee be paid prior to or when we transfer the IDOG to its new family. The adoption fee helps IDOG with the expenses related to the care of all of the dogs in our program and is not directly tied to the expenses incurred for that particular dog. Adoption fees allow IDOG to continue doing our life-saving work as we are 100% dependent upon adoption fees and donations to cover the costs of the dogs in our care. Each dog is assessed individually to determine the adoption fee. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming, and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs, or are heartworm positive. Adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, core vaccines, fecal test/dewormer, heartworm testing, heartworm/flea/tick prevention and microchipping. All IDOGS are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. HOW TO APPLY To apply for any of our dogs, please complete the application on our website: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application REHOMING ASSISTANCE - FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED TO FIND A NEW HOME FOR THEIR DOODLE/POODLE IDOG Rescue also provides assistance and support for people who need to find a new home for their family pet - our motivation is to get these dogs into homes that understand the temperaments and needs of these energetic, playful & loving dogs.
