Chevy's Story
10/2026

VILLAGE RALLY FOR CHEVY!

Our sweet Chevy needs us.

This boy has already been through so much, and if there was ever a dog worth rallying around, it’s CHEVY.

Chevy was sitting in a California shelter facing euthanasia when Journey Home said YES. We brought him all the way to Missouri and promised him a chance at the life he deserved.

And let us tell you... everyone who meets Chevy LOVES Chevy.

He’s 82 pounds of sweetness, goofy personality, big hugs and pure love. He plays hard, loves his doggie friends, loves the water and has absolutely stolen our hearts.

Unfortunately, while playing and just being a dog, Chevy injured his leg. We now know that he has a torn cruciate ligament and needs surgery.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

The cruciate ligament in a dog’s knee helps stabilize the joint. When it tears, the knee becomes unstable, which can cause pain, limping and inflammation and can eventually lead to arthritis and further damage if it isn’t properly treated.

For a big boy like Chevy, surgical repair is often recommended to stabilize the knee and give him the best chance at getting back to a comfortable, active life.

His surgery will be followed by a long recovery — generally several weeks of very restricted activity, followed by a gradual return to exercise over the following months. That means strict rest, leash walks only at first, follow-up care and lots of patience while that knee heals.

But we know Chevy can do it.

And while Chevy is under anesthesia for his knee surgery, the veterinarian is also going to take a closer look at his eye so we can hopefully get a better understanding of what is going on with it and what, if anything, he may need moving forward.

Chevy’s veterinary estimate: $4600.00

We are including his veterinary quote/invoice because we want our Village to see exactly what we are facing.

And now we need you.

VILLAGE — RALLY!

We saved this boy from euthanasia in California because we believed his life mattered. We brought him halfway across the country because we knew there was something better waiting for him.

Chevy deserves more than survival. He deserves his BEST LIFE.

He deserves to run again.
He deserves to play again.
He deserves those pool days.
He deserves more adventures.
He deserves to give a thousand more of those famous Chevy hugs.
And most of all, he deserves to finally find his forever family and live the life we promised him when we said YES.

We know we ask a lot of our Village. There are always dogs to save, mouths to feed, medical bills to pay and another emergency around the corner. But every single time we need you, you show us what this Village is made of.

So we’re asking again.

Can you help Chevy?

$5 helps.
$10 helps.
$25 helps.
$50 helps.
Every single donation gets this sweet boy closer to surgery and recovery.

If you can’t donate, PLEASE SHARE. Sharing Chevy’s story may put it in front of the person who can help — or maybe even the person who has been waiting to bring this incredible boy HOME.

We got you out of that shelter, Chevy. We got you to Missouri. And we’re not stopping now.

Village, let’s get our boy fixed up. LET’S DO THIS FOR CHEVY!

journeyhomegsd.org/donate/

PayPal: journeyhomegsd@gmail.com

Venmo: @journeyhomegsd

WELCOME CHEVY!

We just cant seem to stop rescuing... and honestly, we wouldnt have it any other way!

Everyone, meet Chevy! Just look at that sweet face! We are so excited to welcome this handsome boy to the Journey Home family. His transporter says he is incredibly sweet, laid-back, and an absolute pleasure to have along for the ride.

We do know Chevy has an issue with one of his eyes. We have the notes from the shelter, and once he arrives safely in Missouri, well have our veterinarian evaluate him and determine what, if any, treatment he may need.

Heres what we already know about this amazing guy:
Chevy has the cutest little short tail.
Chevy is one wiggly, happy boy.
Chevy takes treats ever so gently.
Chevy loves playing with tennis balls.
Chevy did great on his temperament test with a female Shepherd mix.
Neutered male
Black and tan German Shepherd mix
Approximately 4 years old
Around 90 pounds of handsome!

Were so thankful this big boy is safe and on his way to a brighter future. Welcome to Missouri soon, Chevy! We cant wait to meet you, spoil you, and help you find the forever family youve always deserved.

Stay tuned for updates on this gentle giant as he settles in!

He is going to need a soft place to land especially with determining his eye situation.
