Chevy's Story

Chevy was returned to us after a year of being adopted. We were extremely sad and disappointed to see the condition he was in. He had gained 40+ pounds and had untreated allergies which resulted in a hematoma causing a permanent curl of his ear.

Prior to his previous adoption, Chevy (Maska) was stuck at our local shelter for months. Shepherds rarely do well in that environment and he was very close to his life ending too soon. We saw all the potential he had and couldn’t let that happen.

Chevy is 7 years old. He is a very typical shepherd and his whiney anxiety is his biggest hurdle. He was given little direction previous to coming to Salty and that set him up to have a few less desired behaviours.

Chevy has so much potential with follow through, structure and an owner that can be a little more assertive. He has done multiple board and trains and is currently being fostered with a professional trainer. He needs adopters that are willing to put in the extra work with his training and will make sure to not put him in situations that may cause him to make a bad decision. He was showing a bit of guarding behaviour over his one adopter but we know this is manageable. He can be a bit of a bull in a china shop, if allowed to be, but he’s just a goofy boy.

Chevy loves people. He’s a happy dog and always so excited to show you his favorite toy. He’s very snuggley and believes he’s a lapdog. He loves to greet you with a happy howl. He can sometimes be vocal, especially with barriers, but that’s a Shepherd!

Chevy is great in his crate. He would love a yard where he can hang out with his people and watch the world go by. He needs help continuing his weight loss journey.

No dogs. He can get a bit too intense. He doesn’t have much spacial awareness. That mixed with the potential new guarding behaviour, means he would do best in a home with no younger kids. He’s strong so will need a handler who can work with that.

Chevy deserves the world and we can’t wait to give him just that!

Please give this good boy a chance.

Apply to adopt
www.saltyanimalrescue.com/adopt
