Cherry's Story

While she still has a long way to go before she's fully healed, we are so happy to see her thriving and living her best life!!
Some fun facts about Cherry:
6 years young
Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler)
Extremely playful, but needs to take it easy for the next few months
Adventurous, loves to sniff everything around her
Her forever family MUST BE CAT FREE as she is NOT cat friendly!
Would absolutely love a playmate in her future home, but is also fine on her own!
Perfectly kennel trained, as long as she has a bed in there with her, she won't make a peep!
We believe her to be fully potty trained, however due to the medication she has to take for her heartworms, she needs to drink a lot of water and it has caused her to have a few pee accidents if you don't get her outside in time.
According to her foster, Cherry is as close to a perfect dog if there is such a thing! She is cuddly but independent and answers to her name!
She does have one little flaw - she has a pretty unhealthy relationship with food and will need ongoing and consistent monitoring of her diet. This typically wouldn't be a big deal but because she came from an environment where she was potentially very food insecure, she's always searching to see if there is anything to eat, which includes tearing into a bag of snacks if left unattended. We will need her future family to understand that they will need to keep all food secure at all times, as being overweight can cause complications with her treatment.

Callaway County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
To adopt one of our pets you must first fill out an application to qualify to adopt. To fill out an application, go to our website and click on the forms tab at the top of the page. We do not adopt our pets out on a "first come first served" basis. We take applications and then do our very best to fit people and pets so the adoption is a life long match. We require a fenced yard for our pets to keep them safe and at home with you! A fence can be above ground fencing, wireless containment or underground fencing. Welcome to the Callaway County Humane Society! We don't have a shelter so our Furbabies are placed in loving foster homes. If you are interested in one of our pets fill out an application and email it back to us. When your application is approved we can set a time to go visit the pet at his foster home. For further information about one of our pets please email us at callawayhumanesociety@gmail.com
