Her future family should be prepared to help her navigate unfamiliar experiences at her own pace.<br/><br/>SOCIALIZATION: Cherry will benefit from continued positive exposure to new people, environments, and experiences to help maintain and build her confidence.<br/><br/>DOG ENCOUNTERS: Cherry can be reactive when she sees other dogs in the shelter environment, likely due to the stress and arousal that comes with kennel life. Outside of the shelter, she has shown much more relaxed behavior on walks and has successfully walked alongside a well-matched male dog. Her adopters should continue supporting her with positive, controlled dog interactions.<br/><br/><br/>ABOUT CHERRY<br/><br/>Cherry's story is one of resilience, healing, and remarkable growth.<br/><br/>When Cherry arrived as a stray, it was clear she had endured a difficult start to life. She came into our care suffering from severe mange, with significant fur loss, numerous scars and scrapes, and an overwhelming fear of people. She was so frightened that she would urinate when approached, and during outdoor time she often chose to hide in bushes rather than engage with the world around her.<br/><br/>Through patience, kindness, and time, she has blossomed into a loving companion who actively seeks affection from the people she trusts. She eagerly asks for pets, enjoys spending time with her favourite people, and greets them with genuine enthusiasm. <br/>Cherry forms deep bonds with her people and loves being close to them. During a recent foster stay, she became especially attached to her foster mom and would become stressed when she left the house, even when her foster dad remained home. Because of this, her future family should be prepared to continue working on her confidence and independence when left alone.<br/><br/><br/>Dogs like Cherry are often overlooked because they need a little extra patience and understanding.
